Good bit by Steve Bunce in the Mirror yesterday...he understandably foregrounds the 'Ricky Returns' bit but for the hardcore fan there's a more interesting quote there...

Amir seems to favour this path anyway. If you ask me Warren has done a great job with him but I admire Amir for wanting to test himself and fight at a higher level and in the states.
Would stillprefer Witter/Hatton than this fight though.

It's going to be Hatton-Marquez in June at City of Manchester Stadium, and that came from the horses mouth.

Good job it's June, it's going to take him that long to shed the weight!!
Has anyone ever been knocked out by the top three P4P fighters in the world in such a short space of time before (3 years)???

Haha. Well, he told the person who told me that he wants Marquez because he wants an 'easy' fight to go out in style. I think it could be a mistake!

The guy is deluded.
If he has one more fight, it's going to be hard for him to pick an opponent who isn't just seen as a gimme by fans, who isn't going to really trouble him after yet another spell of fatness, his recent inactivity and the mental scars that the Pacquiao fight must have left along with the doubts he must also now have about his punch resistance.
So what's the point. I can understand his ego being dented, but he has nothing to gain anymore from fighting on.....other than money.

Can't imagine Hatton calling Marquez an easy fight, but I don't know the guy so who knows. It would also go against what Schaeffer has been saying which is that Hatton is still undecided on when, who or whether Hatton will fight again. Last time they issued anything it was to say they were persuing other options for Marquez as Hatton hadn't decided what he was doing, or have I missed something in the mean time? Marquez is currently scheduled to fight in May at the MGM.

I'm a bit confused. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Ricky was coming back for ONE fight only, being against JMM?
If so, then surely all the talk about Khan vs Hatton is academic? My gut feeling is that if Ricky beats JMM, he will box on. If he loses then I've no doubt he will call it a day.

If he has one fight left in him, and Khan was genuinely an option, I think he'd be crazy to take on JMM instead. Hatton-Khan would be one of the biggest domestic clashes in modern history - in monetary terms if nothing else. Would sell out Eastlands and get a sh*t load of PPVs, probably exceeding Hatton-Mayweather.

Khan vs Hatton simply has to happen.... if Hatton is to return, then he surely must fight Khan. Its almost like a domestic (but still world scene) Pacquiao vs Mayweather. Not often we have 2 of our top 4 P4P guys in the same weight devision.
As Ian says, if Hatton has one fight left - then it surely has to be Khan.
If Khan wants to continue working with Frank, I am sure Frank will not mind not getting a slice of this - if it means Khan's career potential will sky rocket. I'm sure Frank will be confident he can take Hatton now.
I still don't like Hatton's talk of his return. Don't get me wrong, I think he can come again at world level.... but why can't he "formally" make up his mind. Why can't he say - I will be back, instead of "I haven't decided but its looking likely"..... sounds to me that he doesn't really WANT it anymore, just has realised he can still earn a few coins.

u gotta be joking.
joe calzaghe only left him for 1 fight at the end of his career and fell out with him big stylee over it.
khan will have to leave warren if he wants hatton.
i don't think it'll happen.

In monetary terms I agree with you - however I seriously question what Hatton has left in the "taking of shots" department.
Dare I say it - Khan at this stage would severly embarass him and I truly hate saying that.

Winkveron, If Ricky Hatton had told you that he was fighting Marquez then that would be from the "horse's mouth". But if someone tells you that he heard it from Hatton, well that simply isnt hearing it from the horse's mouth.

If Hattons first fight next year is Marquez he will get stopped.
Marquez is past it and out of his weight, but he is a class above Hatton. Who wont have any answers to what Marquez offers him.
