Putting in an order soon for a custom DVD set as a B-Day gift for my brother to inspire him to get into boxing a little more.

What are your 10 must see fights (any era) that any new boxing fan should see?

You guys should completely ignore historical context when compiling this list.

Keep in mind, it is being prepped as a showcase to a non-Boxing fan. Most likely, they don't care how significant Fight X was to the Boxing scene. I would be thinking knock 'em down, drag 'em out brawls, & I'd also put a very heavy emphasis on recent fights, with high-gloss coverage --- sub-consciously, people of today are going to be more excited by the hoopla of the colours & hi-tech punchstats than they realise.

Thanks for the input fellas.

G,I - I think I'll probably end up with a few of the more recent ones (Barrera/Morales, Corrales/Castillo, Gatti/Ward maybe?) but knowing him he'll be able to appreciate the older fights just as well.

Modern fights that are worth watching [I'll take that as the best of the last ten years]? Sheesh! Okay, here's my list:

Gatti/Ward trilogy

Pacquia/Marquez 1 & 2

De La Hoya/Vargas

V. Klitschko/Sanders (arguably the most entertaining HW title fight since Lewis retired)

Thats seven fights.....

Throw in the metamorphasis of Pacquia from Lightweight to Welterweight, with Hatton/De La Hoya/Cotto and thats 10 right there, all good fights....so many other good matches in the last ten years, its hard to narrow a perfect top ten list---imho, a series of all time knockouts would be more satisfying for your bro to watch [Marciano/Walcott 1, Patterson/Johansson trilogy, Louis/Schmeling 2, etc].

hearns barkley I
reason: that makes boxing exciting. it ain't over til its over.

foreman lyle
weird heavy weight slugfest. big heart of two big men.

ali foreman (is a must)
the shere drama of it. i'd show him "when we were kings" as
a whole.

louis schmeling I and II
there is a great docu about the fight and the buildup.

jack johnson documentary. great thing to understand america
and boxing in the early twentieth.

ray leonard against hagler
tactical masterpiece.

tyson holyfield I
after some seconds you would have thought evander goes the
same route as all the others.

lewis klitschko
for the most recent big drama in hw history.

some youtube clips on locce and whitaker to show what difference
defense can make.

it is probably less work to give him a youtube playlist than burn a
dvd, with all the downloading and stuff ...

Hagler - Hearns
Bowe - Holy I
Douglas - Tyson
Foreman - Frazier I
Norton - Ali I
Frazier - Ali I
choose some fights of fabulous four to make it 10. I wouldn't choose anything much older than Ali, since the quality of the footage leaves too much to one's imagination.

Although I rooted for Andrew, the way he finished the fight was almost painful to watch (for a man).
