I voted for Fitz but Kid Lewis might be getting over-looked . . just wasn't consistent enough IMO.

The UK isn't a nation, incidentally.

The best Wales - Wilde, Driscoll, Freddie Welsh, Tommy Farr...

The best of England - Fitz (NZ and Aus), Len Harvey, Ted kid Lewis, Jock McAvoy, Len Johnson, Eric Boon, Peter Kane, Jackie kid Berg, Joe Bowker, Randy Turpin; England has a good few actually who are hard to seperate.

The best of Scotland - Benny Lynch, Bert Gilroy, Elky Clark, Alex Lafferty, Tommy Milligan, Peter Keenan, Jackie Paterson, Ken Buchanan, Jim Brady.

The best of Ireland - Nonpariel Jack Dempsey (USA), Jimmy McLarnin (Canada), Rinty Monaghan, McGuigan - loads of Irish/Americans and more I'm forgetting I'm sure.

FYI....when you change the poll you wipe out all previous recorded votes. And those who voted before CAN vote again.

it is a Nation, but individual countries within it deserve their own recognition and ratings too... that's all the posters are wondering.

As a Brit (and a Welsh one at that), I'm aware of this.

Perhaps BoxRec itself should be lobbied for separate England, Wales, Scotland, N. Ireland rankings, rather than "British"?

As it is, the wider world identifies with Britain/UK, which is why I made this particular poll.

Jackie Berg, Freddie Welsh, Jem Driscoll and Benny Lynch all deserve to be on the poll ahead of Hatton IMO

I don't want to get erribly political here, but Britain is NOT a nation...

Britain is an empire... Hence "The British Empire". :TU:

Or, if you are looking at it geographically, these islands are called "The British Isles", but no, there are speatare countries. :TU:

In terms of cnfusing countries and empires...

Could you ay that a 6 years old Iraqi child can call himself "American", because the US invaded and are now under control of his country?

No, that child is not American. :TU:

Er not sure thats correct. The British Empire was called an 'Empire' because it ruled over about a quarter of the globe. Thats no longer the case, most of the places it ruled over no longer come under British rule, therefore it cannot be called an Empire no longer.

As Controbversial said, "The British Empire" is a defuncty concept and name. The closest thing to it is the current day Commonwealth, but the difference is that Britain no longer controls the majority of Commonwealth countries.

The British Isles is indeed a geographical name, not a political one.

The full, official name for the country is THE UNITED KINGDOM OF GREAT BRITAIN AND NORTHERN IRELAND. That's what is says on your passport.

Well rate British fighters as both British fighters, and individually from the 4 countries, which ever one they come from then - simple!

Personally I think there is enough Irish fighters to have a Best of a Nation: Ireland instead of categorising it under the UK.

I'm not categorising Ireland under UK. As it happens, someone else did an Ireland one too.
