You should've made a Poll option, though it hardly matters. This will --- rightly, I'm afraid --- be a landslide against Marquez. I'm a huge follower of his & his brothers, but, to be fair, Marquez is arguably the lesser of his own contemporaries (Barrera, Morales), & all three are a cut below Olivares, who stands as a real contender for the mantle of greatest Mexican fighter who ever lived.

That's pretty disapointing cuz had he beaten Floyd, he could have gone down as the greatest Mexican fighter of all times..

IN a H2h matchup though, I'd pick Marquez over salvador Sanchez...

Kid please don't get over-board here again. Marquez is an excellent fighter but not even by beating Mayweather he would have gone down as the greatest Mexican fighter of all times. Sanchez would still have a better resume even with less fights and the longevity of Chavez still better. Also I still would rank Olivares ahead of him. He would have made top 5, but not the greatest. Take your time to do some research on Sanchez, Chavez, and Olivares and you'll see what I'm talking about. :TU:

And Marquez would never in a million years have defeated Sanchez :TU:

Lopez should also out-strip Marquez in the Mexican all-time rankings. Arguably, so would Barrera & Morales. Emphasis on arguably, before anyone jumps down my throat.

That said, I have been a fan of the Marquez bros for years --- there was a time when it looked big bro would leave the sport without a legacy --- how wonderful to see the threat of that is long extinguished :TU:

His late career Lightweight wins get him close, but I still have Erik & MAB a step ahead of him. All of them are well ahead of Lopez for me. But I think everyone already knows that.

How much would you say Marquez needs to do to eclipse Barrera & Morales?

Btw, prime-to-prime, how do you see the best Marquez faring against in-pomp versions of Barrera & Morales? Win? Lose? Draw?

Here's hoping, in the latter stages of his career, big bro can keep his little brother's departure from the stable from being in vain, & prove Beristain's apparently-excessive favouritism at least reasonable, if not desirable.

I'm glad he'll go down as one of Mexico's great champions. It was a long road to lasting glory, but Marquez is one tough hombre 8)

he beats Barrera IMO, by way of a combination of counterpunching and greater natrual size but, IMO, the VERY BEST version of Morales just about takes a life and death Split Decision over JMM, because he is just about willing to let his hands go more, and is big and strong enough to take JMM's best shots.

No way. Marquez does not even make the top 100 greatest fighters pound per pound in my list.
