To tell the truth there hasn't been an over abundence of world class talent here in 2009.

Maybe Andre Dirrell was the best of the lot.

Help me out

Jean Pascal maybe, gone on to win and defend the WBC LW title.

This thread takes me back to BBC boxing. David Walker Vs some russian bloke... turned out "some russian bloke" was Roman "Made in hell" Karmazin. What a performance that was.

Dirrell? I thought you said best boxer, not best sprinter!

Dirrell - Is that how Bad Boxing has become that this guy EVEN gets a mention as best appearing fighter last year in the UK...

I don't even know who came and went last year (Barrera), but I'm sure there were quite a few more better than this chump, I mean champ.

Yeah Poonsawat would be at the top i think, but i'm not counting Ireland only UK matches.

But now you've mentioned Ireland, there were a couple of the Cuban prospects that fought here in the UK, maybe in a couple of years time they will be talked about on the world scene.
Mike Perez, Luis Garcia.

I would go with Pascal - I think that fight took a lot out of Froch.

Fantastic fight and win.

the Cubans have now gone over to the States with their promoter/manager Gary Hyde to join up with Rigondeaux in the Wildcard. Alexei Acosta is the standout prospect of the three that were in Ireland. The two Irish prospects the McDonagh brothers [JJ and Paddy] will be heading over aswell this year.

This thread got me thinking... where is Romanov nowadays ?

He beat Thaxton and vanished.

People are only mentioning Dirrell because he ran Froch close, and as this is a pro-Froch forum, genuinely believe he must have been outstanding to not have had "his boots smoked".
Poonsawat for me in a poor year

I think he vacated the EBU belt not long after he beat Thaxton to get a shot at the IBF Title but it failed to materialise on three seperate occasions. Appartently he has massive passport and visa problems but I don't know the details. A bit of a waste really.

I'd not seen karmazin before to be honest, so didnt know what to expect. His performance, albeit against someone lagues below, was absolutley punch perfect. Loved Karmazin.
