You've got to admire what he's done. I think his matchmaking has improved alot over the past few years as well, which was my main gripe with him

X2 but IMO he is a snake like a lot of people in the boxing world really, saying one thing to one person and then something completely different to another. There is IMO alot of back stabbing and alot of 2 faced people.

His match making has had to improve when Sky got wise and refused any more IBO/WBF/ABC bollocks.

I thought it was a poor interview to be honest in that it lacked balance. There was no reference to some of the shocking fare he's served up in the past, whether you're a Sky viewer or a paying punter. Equally, while he's undoubtedly made a number of boxers very wealthy, what about those he discarded when they were no longer financially useful, do they not count? He's quite happy to feel 'betrayed' by the likes of Naseem, Ricky and Calzaghe, but this strikes me as remarkable double standards given he's shown no qualms about jettisoning fighters once the arrangement doesn't suit him financially.
Warren's achievements deserve recognition, but not at the price of brushing the more unsavoury aspects under the carpet. The journo in this interview steered away from tackling those more 'delicate' issues in what is largely a 'puff' PR piece.

the calzaghe situation just makes me laugh.
and sums up the kinda guy he is.
calzaghe for all his faults was loyal to warren for 12 yrs.
he has 1 fight at the very end of his career away from warren and warren throws the toys out of the pram.
calzaghe counter sued and got a 1.8m judgement.
got what u deserved mr warren.

So all in all he owed around millions various companies and individuals - no mention of anyone getting a dime (apart from Don King).
The Man is 'allegedly' a Snake!

Wazza is a sharp thinker and credit where it's due, he left school at 14 without an education and is now being driven in a Bentley to and from his palace.

Those who have mentioned Mr W arren's matchmaking improving over recent years - look no further than Dean Powell.
Best bit of matchmaking I have seen in a long time was when Khan was matched with MAB.

Anybody else find this quote by him concerning Naz Hamed nonsensical?
"He was the most athletic kid I had ever seen. He could lie on the bottom of the swimming pool for three minutes holding his breath. But he is now the size of a house. If he tried that, he would sink."

Be careful he does not sue you!
He had an education but did not make use of what he had.

That is a shocking puff piece from a complete idiot. Have you ever seen Mihir Bose's Mayweather 'interview'? It is beyond cringeworthy. He knows nothing about boxing
I'd say what I really think about this interview but it would only get deleted.

MAKES the matches, yes, and you look at some of his stacked cards and think WOW! But how many of them are still standing by fight night?

Warren took him on in 1993 when Hamed was 19. "He was a kid, he needed direction," explains Warren. "Nobody was interested in him."
There was
huge interest in Naz even before he turned pro. Boxing Outlook even put him on their cover before his debut and predicted he could become Britain's best ever, or even one of the world's best ever, and they were not alone in this opinion. Naz was a terrestrial TV draw from day one.

There was huge interest within the trade.Ingle used to take him everywhere with him from a young age and he wasnt exactly shy in telling people how good he was going to be.However, his first few fights were tucked away on Screensport(great show),and then he got lost a bit with Duff.Fwank did indeed make him a crossover star and put him on ITV.Im not saying he wouldnt have become a huge name anyway, just his career really did take off with allegedly

Fair points. Just for FW to say NOBODY was interested in him (I don't know if he meant promoters, or fans, or both) is blatantly untrue.

Fair play to him for doing so well in life, but there is always an agenda with him(Mitchell the best since Naz...is he just saying that because Mitchell is the most likely to actually stay with him long term, he needs Fwanky whereas Khan is big enough to do his own thing ala Hatton/Calzaghe).
A pretty sneaky chap I suspect but then I guess you have to be to get where he has in Boxing.
Wasn't his cousin he was doing a favour for actually Lenny McClean?
It's well known Fwanky started off in the unlicensed game.
Fwanky's uncle was none other than Bobby Warren, a notorious gangster from the 50s-60s who knocked about with a lot of the heavy guys from those days. People like Billy Hill and later the Krays.

yes, he allegedly started as a poster boy and runner for Mclean and his / the unlicenced lot.
Would love a warts and all 100% truth book from Mr Warren. It'd be the size of war and peace and probably the greatest boxing book for British fight fans of all time. Alas, we'll probably never get it.

Yeah it'd be a great read..... problem being I don't think Fwank could lie straight in bed
