Casamayor, Castillo, & Corrales for the Hall Of Fame.
Yay, or nay? Remember, this isn't a, 'Maybe' kind of thing --- straight up, if it were your vote, what would you do with these three contemporaries?
Just at a quick glance head-to-head, if anyone wants to factor that into their collective careers...
Casamayor 2-2-0, 1 KO (Beat Corrales twice, lost to him once, lost to Castillo)
Castillo 2-1-0, 1 KO (Beat each man once a-piece, & lost one to Corrales)
Corrales 2-3-0, 1 KO (Lost two to Casamayor, beat him once in turn, & lost & won two fights with Castillo).

I've always had an ongoing argument with some here that this is the hall of "fame" not the hall of skill.
Like it or not Corrales is in. He's the famous one....and not for all the right reasons. I'd probalby say Castillo if it was about being the best of the three.

Pretty sure the Hall was created in the first place to celebrate supreme talent, skill, & accomplishment --- not who got the headlines.
Call me stark-raving mad...

I think Castillo surely gets in based off his fights with Corrales and his ability to make Mayweather very beatable.

At the moment, I would have Castillo only in. Casa and Corrales on the outside looking in.

Casamayor & Castillo (both only just) make it IMO, with Corrales falling short.

If it were my choice only Castillo will get in. Corrales and Casamayor were exciting fighters, but their level of opposition for the most part was average. There are more deserving fighters that are not currently on the HOF.
Jose Luis Castillo
Castillo has the better resume if you ask me; he stands with the better chance having wins against both Corrales and Casamayor. On the first fight vs Mayweather I score the fight a close win for him. So in my book he is one and one vs Mayweather.
Diego Corrales:
With all due respect Corrales best win was against whom? Freitas?
He was 1 out 3 vs Casamayor, 1 out 3 vs Castillo, after that what?
Yes he was an absolutely exciting fighter, very watchable but his resume is just not strong enough to be inducted into the IBHOF.
Joel Casamayor
Good resume but not great. He has good wins against Corrales and Campbell, but he lost against Freitas, Castillo, and Marquez.
What about fighters like Cocoa Kid and Jose Basora?

If I ran the HOF neither of the three would make it.
Castillo has the strongest resume of the three but I wouldn't say it's 'HOF' calibre, even if you make the first Floyd fight a win.

okay seeing as Casamayor has been mentioned, which doesn't happen often:
anyone else think that, around 2003 or so, Casamayor would have given Mayweather a VERY interesting fight?
i do. i would have loved to have seen it.

I do, actually. I'm rare, though. I always thought Casamayor was better than several of his key performances indicated. A shame. He's neck-&-neck with Castillo (who was forever under-rated) as the best of the three, IMO. Mayweather mentioned a fight with Casamayor following his 2001 demolition-job of Corrales at Jr. Light, but, for whatever reason, it never happened.
What do you think of Casamayor & Pacquiao, around the time Pacquiao had his 2003 coming-out party with Barrera, in a fight at Jr. Light? Pacquiao's only experience with a supremely tricky, dirty fighter who wouldn't play fair was Sanchez --- which didn't exactly go down well for him --- & Casamayor has the style edge. On the other hand, Pacquiao
had just reduced a ring legend to rubble.

Castillo is the only no brainer for me. A top 20-25 all time Lightweight who beat both of these guys, Corrales he beat twice if Chico didn't pull off mouthgate.
I would give casamayor a maybe, though you said no maybes. His amateur career was tremendous and nobody dominated him, except, ironically, for Santa Cruz.
Corrales belongs with Gatti in our memories and DVD collections as one of the great warriors of his time. Like Cornelius Boza-Edwards and thousands before them, they just weren't good enough for this distinction. Though Corrales was much better than Arturo, he wasn't HOF material.

Castillo had great skills and did well against Mayweather...his high point, then the same guy cheats to beat a wife beater. The wife beater probably gets in, but the cheater, a guy who couldn't or didn't make weight for his big date/s should be barred at the door. Chico had a bad temper, but his crimes were not pre meditated just stupid. Castillo's weight thing was more scurrilous even if less serious. Cass...he's a luke warm candidate at best.
I think I'm with the folks who think none of these three should get in.

What the hell does failing to make weight or beating women have to do with HOF induction!?

No, not in my opinion but I have a feeling that at least 2 of those will get in - probably Corrales and Castillo.

Corrales was both the most popular and the least talented of the 3 fighters. That being said. I figure all 3 will eventually get into the hall of fame. As they all have some pretty high profile wins. I'll give a brief evaluation of all 3 fighters and their biggest achievements.
Corrales
KO 10 Castillo ( 2005 Fight of the Year) This is clearly the feather in Corrales' cap, and if there was any one reason why he got in. This is it.
Had 3 close fights with Joel Casamayor, Won the 2nd fight by a slim margin, you can argue that he lost all 3.
KO 10 Acelino Freitas, the first man to beat Freitas. Solid win, doesn't seem as impressive now as it did then though.
Casamayor
2 wins over Corrales. One by TKO.
Close losses to Freitas and Castillo.
Come from behind win over Katsidis in a thriller.
Good close win over Nate Campbell.
Castillo
Good wins over both Casamayor and Corrales.
Engaged in the 2005 FOTY with Corrales, losing in dramatic fashion.
1st man to beat Mayweather but was not awarded the win.
Other good wins over Juan Lazcano, Stevie Johnston, Cesar Bazan.
Of all 3 fighters JLC has the best track record, and realistically is probably the only fighter worthy of HOF consideration. Most likely though. All 3 will eventually get in.

Actually, I think the jewel in Corrales' career crown is his 130lb tenure. For one fight, you would have to go with the victory over Castillo (history won't remember his decimation of Freitas, & that's a shame, as it was a very good win), but, overall, I think Corrales' biggest claim to fame should be his time as a Jr. Lightweight. He never looked so lethal.
I think the most under-rated during his career of the three was Castillo, but he seems to have gained plenty of ground in that regard in recent times. Historically, my suspicion is the least respected will be Casamayor --- on his best night, quite possibly the best fighter of the trio, incidentally.
