More Hatton excuses!

So the Mayweather defeat was Billy Graham's fault and now he has blamed Floyd Sr. for the Pacman defeat. There is only one constant in those 2 defeats and that is Ricky himself. I just hate excuses, it's no great shame to be beaten by those 2. So what, you aren't the best fighter in the world, you have still had a good career. There is just no need for the snidey swipes at former trainers! Surely someone with his experience could have said to Floyd Sr. 'look pal, you are pushing me too hard, i'm chilling it out a bit and if you don't like it do one!'

I doubt he'll be the last fighter to try to protect his ego by looking for reasons, other than himself, for why he lost.

Agree totally, I don't think either of those results would have been any different with a different trainer, it;s such an easy excuse, he wasn;t saying crap about Mayweather's training when he easily beat Malignaggi.

What you see there is delusion, Hatton has contracted that "Blame every fornicator but yourself" disease which is spreading like wildfire around this planet at the moment. He'll fight on, get a couple of good looking wins, believe he's better than ever before, come up against a fighter who is too much for him and end up flat on the canvas once again, he'll feel sorry for himself for a few months, blame the defeat on this or that, get the fire in the belly again and it happens again like a vicious circle.

Hatton is juts trying to put a spanner amongst the works. He would have no chance of beating Pacquiao or Mayweather in a rematch & Ricky KNOWS it! Fighters, some more than others, live in denial to a certain extent.

Desite having next to no chance of winning, Hatton would jump at the chance of a rematch with either guy as its a big payday. Its a simple as that!

where do you read it mate???

mayweather told hatton not too come into camp obese as he would with graham from the off, & coz hatton was low on confidence after pulling through against laczano he listend & was in good shape v malinaggi who had one hand.
he then felt like the ricky of old & slipped back into his old ways & turned up to mayweathers camp for manny weighing too much leaving nothing but weight cutting, where he'd train after mayweathers sessions with bloody beard :!: so mw felt disrespected & felt hatton wasnt serious enough & adopted hattons poor attitude simple as.
billy grahams wheels fell off which we could all see & hattons aswell.

All Hatton said is he could have performed better cause he was over cooked. I was thinking about this the two fights in which he didn't balloon up in weight - Mayweather and Pacquaio.

I aint saying he would have beaten them - but he was certainly stronger in the Kostya fight than he was for the Mayweather fight. Seeing Pacquiao demolish Cotto since makes me think Pacquiao would have been strong enough to bully Kostya around, in a similar fashion as Ricky did. However, I aint convinced Mayweather would have out strengthed Kostya - (he would have out boxed him) but yet he out strengthed Ricky, who was stronger than Kostya in 2005.

At the end of it, I always thought Floyd and Manny would have been too quick, too sharp and too skillful for Ricky. However, I am starting to think Ricky cannot sustain his highly intensive 3 month camp - if he is already in shape before.

is being in shape a bad thing??? :KO:

ricky has lost his high intensity he now tires, his style is no longer effective as he cant maintane it as his career as gone far longer then it should of, it took him along time to get to the very top as he was held back by sn.
hatton came in way too light v mw :shame: i blame the collazo fight.

I think its more a case of the fact that Hatton was a fading fighter. I think Hatton went on a tough run of fights from Kostya. Tszyu, Maussa, Collazo, Urango. A tough run of fights that I think took alot out of Hatton. He then got a tired Castillo and looked great, but Hattons durability was never tested in that fight, same as Malignaggi. I don't think Hatton, regardless of training camp, will ever have the same durablity level as he had pre Tszyu

What I mean is his training camp. He must work damn hard to get from "Fatton" to "Hatton". If he's already "ticking over" and then has an high intensive camp, then there is a chance he could leave some of it in the gym.

Some fighters thrive on ticking over, clean living and being at fighting weight all the time. Others need their rest and their blow outs. Horses for Courses. Everyone sings the praises of Kerry Kayes - who is an expert in this field - he didn't express concern. All I'm saying if Hatton did tick over, which he obviously did by his conditioning, for the two big fights - and then put in the same effort for a big camp... then he might have been to long in the gym.

I do wonder why Hatton didn't stick to his usual routine for these fights - maybe he listened to too many people who had been long saying in the media that his weight ballooning isn't good and he could be even better if he lived the life.

Maybe, well probably - but I think while things were "different" for those camps Hatton has a just reason to give it another go. Better to comeback now, than in five years time. I actually respect him for it.... we'll certainly not have any "what ifs" when it comes to his career.

Oh yes we will - JUNIOR WITTER :OhYes:

I think those comments are a little unfair - Hatton didnt say he would have beat manny, he said he fough like crap and that alot of that was down the his camp, i think we can all agree he's alot better than he showed in that fight.

Also Mayweather fought him at welterweight and Hatton like other fighters from smaller weights JMM for example arent going to be able to beat mayweather at welterweight. I think we can agree that if mayweather droped to light weight JMM would hammer him.

I personally think what hatton said about being listed as "past it" because he lost to Pac when 5 months before he looked amazing against malignaggi (a top ten jr welterweight) was fair enough. Anytime a fighter looses critics say they're past it. Cotto lost to pac and people are already saying his chins gone and he didnt even get knocked out.

Either way i think hatton is still capable of taking 1, 2 or even 3 light welterweight world titles if the IBO title is thrown back in the mix. Not being able to beat Pac and Mayweather doesnt make you past it or pants.

Hatton could take Urango or devon alexander in his second fight that would give him the WBC and IBF belts, and if the IBO title is thrown in for his comeback fight then he's likely to face malignaggi, juan diaz or JMM all people he can beat.

JMM while an amazing boxer wont be able to knock hatton out and is likely to get mauled and battered by Hatton at jr welterweight, he just cant carry the power up.

Hatton just needs to avoid taking fights against people like Khan and Bradley who are hot prospects and extermely dangerous fights for any established fighter coming towards the end of their career.

I think he has one or two big fights in him and i think he's got what it takes to end his career as a world champion at Jr welterweight.

You've got more faith in Hatton's durability than me. I haven't seen Hatton take a clean shot and come forward in a few years now. He can't beat any of the title holders at 140 unless he KO's them early, which is possible, but risky. All have the ability to land a clean shot on Hatton which is enough to stop him these days. Every shot Hatton took from Pacquiao looked like it stopped him in his tracks. He hasn't shown he can walk through shots in a long time now and that is what he needs to do to beat the current title holders at 140. For the record, I think a fresher Hatton would eat all the 140lb title holders alive (no pun intended), but that isn't the Ricky Hatton of 2010, in my opinion.

Possibly but only the next fight will tell, i dont think his punch resistance has gone down that much. Agreed in the pac fight it was shocking but im not sure that was down to punch resistance, that was more to do with using his face to block the punches instead of a guard.

If the IBO title is up for grabs for hattons comeback then he'll win it and he could still beat urango i think.

It's not just his punch resistance, its his general durability. I think there's been a gradual decline in the past few years. I wouldn't back him against any belt holder at 140lb right now because I think they'd all land cleanly at some point and put him in serious trouble. Lets say he had a rematch with Urango and it played out the same as the first, I doubt he could tie Urango up as easily as last time round, I could see him getting stopped late while up on the cards. I don't think Hatton has ever had an amazing chin, but he made up for it with intensity and stamina. I don't think he has the same levels in any of those departments as he did even two years ago.

He was never going to beat Floyd or Manny. I can't believe how many people pick him on here.

I was one of 8 people who picked Manny to win by KO. I think Hatton won the poll by a land slide!

Keep saying it - Ricky Hatton should be applauded for what he has achieved for himself and British Boxing - he has done fabuously well.

Why oh why cant he just leave it there.

Joe Public can turn against the Hitman just as quick as they followed him in their droves.

This next fight for Hatton for me is the biggest and most risky he has ever fought - no matter who the opponent is.

The Hattons, Gareth Williams (Chief Executive/Lawyer) and Richard Poxon (Matchmaker) have a massive choice to make and despite the hype stating it could be a BIG name I honestly would not be surprised if there was a rethink for the "comeback".

As for the excuses - he is entitled to a few purely on the very fact he has done so well for British Boxing.

Hatton is has just about reached world class level during his career. In my opinion he is about the same level as someone like Tony Sibson, but P4P I rate Sibson as a better puncher and better fighter.

In the age of pop culture and football fans following anyone who shows an alleigance to their club, they follow anyone. Hence Hattons popularity

Sibson beat Alan Minter, Dwight Davison and John Collins. Minter was world champ, and in this age of multi titles, Davison and Collins could have won a world belt.

Hatton beat Tszyu (perfect timing and a first class job by Fran k Warren) but apart from that the guys he beat were no better than Dwight Davison or Alan Minter

Hatton was obliterated by Pacman and Maywesther schooled him then KOd him. One a former flyweight and one a former super featherweight.

Hatton has had a great career but is essentially an over acheiver in an age when mediocre fighters call themselves world champions

when DG's agreeing u know he's talking bullshat. :D

hatton was a level up from sibbo for me.

seen a bit of sibson and i'm sorry but hatton was much better.

collins and davison on a level with castillo & collazo.

let alone the malignaggi's and urango's.

beating an urango would have been the equivalent of sibson beating a mugabi or a frank fletcher.

i don't see those wins on his ledger. :shame:
