Over the course of the last 18 months Australia have had an abundance of talent from the Amateur/Olympic program hit the pro ranks.
Some had huge success and when on to win gold at the Com games, while others weren't so lucky, and were probably best suited to the Pro scene.
My question is, are there a few world champions among them, are we at a stage where boxing is flourishing in this country and we are fortunate to add to the talent pool with some good AMS making the switch to the Pro ranks.
Here is the Talent thats turned pro in the last 18 months, that had a AM background.
Joel Brunker 12(7)- 0 . Very busy fighter 12 fights in 13 months.
Adam Forsythe 6(5)- 0 Good strong fighter.
Brad Pitt 3(2) -0 Commonwealth games Heavy Gold medalist.
Jarrod Fletcher 3(3)- 0 Commonwealth games Middle Gold medalist. Has a win over James De Gale and already holds the Major regional title.
Paul Fleming 3(2)- 0 Already signed with Top rank.
Ged O'Mahony 2(0) -0 Trained by paul Briggs.
Dilshod Mahmudov 2(2) -0 Silver Medalist at World championship.
These are the fighters i know who had a AM and Olympic background, and imo a great crop of talent coming thru, but is there a world champ or world champs?

Others that have turned pro in the last 18 months that are making a case for a Pro career, don't know too much about there AM career.
Will Tomlinson 10(10) -0-1 Really like the look of Tomlinson, good career win recently.
Shane McConville 3(0) -0-4 Great heart, good work rate and isn't afraid to take on all comers.
Brett William Smith 5(3) - 0 Seen him fight a couple of times leaves everything in the ring.
Victor Chernous 4(2) -1 had a loss against the unpredictable Olarte.
James Giltrow 9(6) - 1 has had some good wins.
Kurt Bahram 8(3) - 0 Tall fighter who can box.
Michael Bolling 10(8)- 0 has 2 very good wins already and a big future.
Justin Whitehead 4(2) - 0 Has a win over Solo and was Commonwealth games Bronze medalist.
Certainly 2 or 3 fighters there that will make a splash on the world scene.

Pitt has won his three prelim fights, two by knockout. He has a fight against an unnamed opponent on February 13 in Melbourne.
So far he is looking good.

Actually, when you look at those lists there is some very good talent there.

Yep, I haven't seen them all but from what I have seen I'd take Brunker and Bolling as the top two.
There is something just not right about Pitt, perhaps it is his strange physique but I can just see him faltering at some stage.
Fletcher and I think it was Fleming hold their hands way too low for my liking and this could be a huge problem if they keep fighting scubs and getting away with it as it will form a bad habit for if/when they step up.

Don't know about world champs but two very handy amateurs made their debut at the Mansfield Tavern 20/11/09.
Cody Philp and Wayne Parsons fought out a classy draw at welterweight. Hope to see more of these two.

Justin Whitehead 4(2) - 0 Has a win over Solo and was Commonwealth games Bronze medalist.
did anyone see this fight??
It couldve went either way for me, Solo floored Whitehead and i thought that was enough for a close win, but Whiteheads Jab is incredible, havnt seen one of those in a while from any heavyweight,
was Solo with Joe lewis during this fight??
i think if he was then he wouldve won IMO

Would I be totally alone in saying that amateur success is less and less a predictor of pro success nowadays? IMO, the disparate scoring systems have created two different sports. After dedicating your youth to the sport and working your guts out to succeed, when you go pro nowadays you more or less gotta go back to the drawing board and rather than just tweak and adjust a few things, you pretty much need to learn whole new styles and tactics.

Let's hope so.
Spelling aside, for a moment I thought you meant the old "Brown Bomber." He has been gone a while.

Whitehead waited until rather late in life to turn pro. At 38 most boxers have retired or are thinking about it.

Yeah mate on canvas classics, if you've got Fox or Ausstar watch tonights canvas classic and you can judge the fight yourself...it's on at 10 o'clock.
Personally i thought the ref intervened in what was going to be a KO win to Solo in the 7th, the Ref gave a standing 8 count very timely.
Whitehead did clearly outbox Solo for the first 6 rounds with probably the best Jab in Australian Heavy boxing. Last 4 rounds were all Solo.
