Bolton's Amir Khan takes on New Yorker Paulie Malignaggi in New York in the Spring.
Khan hammered another New Yorker, Brooklyn’s Dmitriy Salita, in just 76 seconds in December, but the quick, flashy Malignaggi poses more of a threat, coming off a big win over Houston’s Juan Diaz as he does, although Paulie is not a puncher and suffers from brittle hands.
This is crucial because Khan looks a bit ‘chinny’, as they say in the trade, and has the talent to beat non-punchers every night of the week. Malignaggi’s lack of power really showed - and really let him down - against Khan’s big Lancashire rival Ricky Hatton, with whom Khan is now inevitably linked, when he was pounded in 11 unpleasant rounds in 2008. Malignaggi just couldn’t keep the Manchester Hitman away.
It should be said he was never off his feet against Hatton and has rebounded exceptionally well, culminating in that impressive decision over “Baby Bull” Diaz in Chicago last month on a unanimous 12-round decision. He possesses plenty of skill, guts and confidence (and chat) but really trades on his speed and Khan is one of the fastest fighters in the world today.
This match, Khan’s long-awaited American debut, will give him real exposure in the States, where he is now trained and apparently managed, promoted and spoon-fed by Freddie Roach out of California. Even in the other man’s hometown, Khan looks the hot favourite.

Comfortable win for Khan. The only thing Malignaggi has going for him at world-level is his hand and foot speed, but in Khan he'd be meeting that rarity - someone who's actually faster.

Malignaggi has a great chin and stamina also, and fighting guts.
I think its an excellent fight.... and worth alot more money than Maidana. I think this was any other fighter we'd be saying "well done for going for the money".
I don't see this as a backwards step to Maidana - but a sidewise step worth alot more money.

PM just might win it!
He does not punch very hard, but does he have to to stop Khan?

Why can't he fight Maidana first in Marrch then Paulie in May it hardly like he was in tough fight last time out! Khan if th eref counted properly would been knocked out by Limond so Paulie could do it!

I'm not Khan's biggest fan, but i'd find it hard to make much of a case for Mallignaggi.
From what i have read on various sites, this fight is nowhere near a done deal.

Malignaggi is a bigger name and a bigger money fight for Khan so it's just about defensible on those grounds, but he's still ducking Maidana pretty shamefully, and for obvious reasons. There will come a point though where he has nowhere left to run and will have to fight a puncher again, and then we'll see him come undone. For what it's worth I reckon he'll walk through Malignaggi pretty easily.

He's made a career move here, Khan needs to build his name in america and Malignaggi in all fairness is poor mans version of him.
I think roach and khan both know malignaggi is going to get schooled and it will make khans name in america.
Personally i would have liked to have seen him fight someone with some power but in all fairness if he takes a high risk fight now and looses the US market will be closed to him for good. 2 big US fights to make his name and he will always be able to get a comeback.

i wouldnt be surprised to see maliagnaggi win this hes not a puncher but hes accurate and shown a great chin and heart be a good match, but even though malignaggi is a better name than maidana id still like to see khan in with a puncher

richard schaefer is on ssn now and he named loads of possible fights for khan.
He said that they will come up with a plan for the best fight.
He didnt rule out maidana, but from the sounds of it, he wont fight him.

if he does indeed fight malignaggi i think he will be kod. the big thing in malignaggis favour is his heart. he went into the lions den with cotto and sucked up all that hatton dished out. khan on the other hand has just avoided anyone remotely dangerous...and beat up on old and small or finished opponents. if malignaggi is focused on the fight he can neutralise khans speed and force him to open up....and of course his legendary chin will let him down

Cotto had hurt him bad, he stuck it out.

It doesnt matter how much heart he has, he doesnt have enough power to take khan out and he wont be able to outpoint him so i cant see how he can win the fight.

Limmond had Khan down if the ref counted properly knocked out! Malignaggi better than Limmond.

he had n'dou down so he hits hard enough, it will be intresting to see how khan copes with someone having the same hand speed and foot movement as him

So your basing you assumption on a fight that Khan won lol.
Kotelnik is a bigger puncher than Limond and Malignaggi and also beat Maidana, Khan pissed all over him.
