Herbie Hide messed up

Zsolt Erdei has just relinquished his WBC cruiserweight belt to return to light-heavy. Thus Fragomeni and Wlodarczyk will contest the vacant belt.

Herbie Hide has been offered two or three eliminators in recent years and didn't take any of them. He would have been in this match if he had beaten Matt Godfrey. Instead he's been wasting his time feasting on nobodies. Last year in particular, he fought only twice, both non-title affairs against journeyen. At 38, his lack of ambition/confidence has blown what was a good chance at world honours at the weight.

Not sure if its true but some sort of semi finals and a final featuring

FRAGOMENI v WLODARCZYK
HIDE v PALACIOS

has been muted with the two winners fighting for the title, seems unusual but if it happens it might be interesting, if the Pole gets home advantage this time against Fragomeni he definately wins, saw the first fight and he was more than a tad unfortunate not to get the verdict in my book.

Have not seen Palacios but heard some good things about him, if the fight comes off it could be short for one of them.

Frag v Wlod for the vacant WBC is what Fight News is saying today.

i think godfrey was offered a shot at adamek, the ring mag/IBF champ, but the TV money never came in, so it didn't happen.

Pretty good fightnews so I assume its right - was only a rumour that was going around about the Hide thing so must be usual crap I guess.

Wlod wins with ha - worth a bet if we can get it - could even win in Italy.

One of Britain's best? Really? Maybe I do not know enough about British boxing, but when I think of Herbie Hide, I never associate him with being of Britain's best fighters. Not really sure that is how he will be remembered either.

Britains best, no chance. Nowhere near.

And please, dont say "but he won a world title"

Exactly what I was thinking, look what this poster says about Luke Fury on the prospects topic.

Herbie squandered his prime feasting on has beens & never beens, I see no reason for him to buck the trend at nearly 40 in the cruisers.

Herbie's yet to win a real world title.

Herbie knows he doesn't have the constitution to mix with live bodies. I think someone with guts like Fragomeni would just walk through him to be honest. Anyone who won't just fold has a chance. Herbie doesn't even seem to have a punch any more.

Herbie vs Bowe was a fun fight to watch, it was clear Herbie was way over his head but in between all of the knockdowns people forget that Herbie stunned Bowe a good few times in that fight!

Last time I saw hide, he looked terrible, all his speed seemed to have gone, and his balance was off, meaning he couldn't generate any power.

He's finished - the reason he's probably pulled out of eliminators is for fear of getting beat, he's just not that good any more.

ppl don't want to fght him, as he's not a big name, and he's a big cruiserweight, and a very dirty fighter. in all a nightmare who can explode, implode, or whatever.

i'm happy with frago v wlod 2 for the vacant title. their first fight was an absolute war.

fragomeni would spank the granny out of Hide and that's all I have to say about that.

Yes, but as it is he either fades away forever or risks getting beaten by a journeyman (again). At least an eliminator, even in losing, would pay well and with no disgrace in losing to a world class opponent.

Herbie should have taken the fight against Maccarinelli instead of letting Mac face Mathew Ellis. He was offered the fight at 2 weeks notice and turned down what would have been for the Interim WBO Title after Maccarinellis origional opponent pulled out injured.

The only reason Maccarinellis fight on this date wasn't for the title was because Ellis was over the limit. Hell they were even going to sanction a fight against a Lightheavyweight ranked arround 100 on boxrec until he collapsed at the weigh in. This was a golden opportunity for Hide to regain some credability. Hide asked for 4 weeks notice even though he knew the date was set and tickets had been sold for ''comeback night'' featuring Khan, Audley and Mac.

I still hope Hide gets a big, maybe final, fight at World level before he looses to a journeyman out in Germany. Against the right, Maccarinelli level, opponent who knows what could happen.

I wouldn't bet against Hide beating Macc if they fought right now. Back then, Macc would have been a strong favourite, but the playing field has changed a lot since.
