McAllister: My granny could have beaten Thaxton

Boxing News has a story in its website today (presumably can't link to it from here?) with Lee McAllister, who's angling for a rematch with John Murray. In it, he says the Thaxton who Murray beat was so past-it that "my granny could have beaten him".
Now, it was apparently tongue-in-cheek and at the same time McAllister gives Thaxton credit for his prior achievements, but it did strike me as a bit "off".
Nevertheless, he won't receive any flak for this because, after all, he's not Amir Khan. Just imagine if Khan had said that - there would be a sticky thread up on here for details about the assembly of the official lynchmob, the best tools for sharpening pitchforks, etc.

His comment is beneath contempt. Trying to get some exposure by chasing after a warrior like Murray in the hope that it will look like John's running from a rematch. Laughable! He might need to look at the video of their fight again and think otherwise.
Thing is oliverfennell, no one gives two hoots what McAllister has to say, where as it would have been spattered all over the websites and beyond if Khan said it.

Perhaps there was a reason he couldn't keep those efforts up. John hounded him and sure he took a bit to get going but the idea that Lee somehow relinquished the fight is nonsensical. He was beaten out off the fight. I do like Mad Mac though. He has that gleam in his eye.
i said he couldnt he didnt give up the fight murrys body shots wrecked lee

Once Murray beats Merzaache is it that unfeasable that McAllister will get another crack at John. If John decides to defend the belt then McAllister is ranked 3rd in the Euro rankings and Kevin Mitchell is one of the two above him.
Whether the result would be any different is another question

Any ideas when john Murray will fight next? I can't see anything but a Murray win if they fight again. I rather see Mcallister fight Rees!

McAllister got battered by Murray, no contest that one, totally out-manned. No need to see that one again.

McAllister is in no position to really 'call out' anyone, given his next opponent. The Scot defends his Commonwealth light-welterweight title against Ghana's unknown Sam Amoako in Glasgow on January 29.

His Granny is tough she was in charge of seating at his last fight
I agree he isnt in a position to call out Murray but if he keeps winning and steps up the competition he can go onto Euro level imo. But Murray is a class above McAllister couldnt deal with his workrate so showboated,

I think Oliver is making an observation about khan rather mac.
Thing is if mac had a few years of talking poo under his belt, ran a few people down, sacked several trainers, backed out of purse bids many a time cos his shat his pants, bragged about diamond watch and rap star neighbours and declared he was going to America to get away from jeolous haters.. And would twice as famous were it not for him being Scottish, then maybe there would be a point.

Lees power looks like it's starting to come through now.if so then expect some concusive kos cos mark my words he can really whack an I'm not talkin a decent dig I'm the talkin lights out put em to sleep variety.it's always been there but just not on fight night, when I've said in the past people av looked at me like I was an idiot.maybe it's coming through as he matures who knows but a lee mc'alistar punching on full throttle would put any LW-LWW to sleep.an I've been clipped a few times so it's not like I don't know what I'm talkin about.

McAllistar is a decent fighter, although at this stage I think Murray is simply better. I can't really see a rematch on the cards unless McAllistar happens to lose, and is seen as a "soft touch" opponent.

i disagree - murray worked him out steadily - remember, there are 12 rds - and then wore him down with body shots that broke him in half. murray's jab was very impressive in the middle rounds; it was a nice offensive showing vs a fast, big lightweight.
i'm glad for mcallister that he's getting TV dates on sky and that he has a title. but if he'd beaten murray, then he'd have been fighting thaxton, and then probably raving about himself.

at one point it seemed that mcallister was getting a shot at mezaache. around the time that murray was beating thaxton.

Maybe they should put his grandma on TV next time. She can“t be any worse than him.
