What do peeps think of his commentary?

I find him rather ammusing, but I know he does really annoy some people with his ramblings.

He can't score fights and he talks about irrelevant shit too much.

With his "Ooh, a baby in the audience,I love babies", like I wanna hear this shit when i tune in to boxing

Steve is a very nice guy but his commentating style is a little idiosyncratic. There is a good feature about him in the "Old Timers" section of this week's Boxing News - he was a better fighter than most commentators

Yeah it is a good feature, I've heard from many sources over the years that Steve Holdworth is a good bloke.

I enjoy his commentaries, he's got a tough job as he's by himself and alot of the fights a dreadful. Also, it is quite probable that he knows the result of the fight before doing the commentary.

If anyone got the Hopins vs Hakkar/Tua vs Rahman II PPV on that Setana channel (don't know what it was like for Jones vs Ruiz as I couldn't get Setana at the time). Then that they had the Kingvision show and for a PPV, the presentation, and commentary, was awful. Considering Don King is Mr Razzamataz I was surprised to his PPV's were so poor. Holdsworth is much better than that commentator.

Loved your comments on the fights back in the day. A lot better than some of the stuff our ears have to put up with now. Hope all is well with you Steve.

Brings back some memories, coming home from school and putting on Europe Sport, happy days.

A personal classic “wouldn’t be allowed now” memory of Steve commentating was when between rounds the cameraman showed a (presumably famous) lady in the crowd with with a fair amount of chest cleavage on display.

“Nice to meet the three of you” was Steve’s response.

It's truly depressing comparing the careers of Steve and Adam Smith. The sheer difference in quality of commentary is night and day. Yet Smith has been the one enjoying the spoils. He stole a living from Steve if we are talking about who the best commentator in the game is. Adam Smith would be right at the bottom of any list.

Steve Holdsworth is up there with Gutteridge Carpenter and Darke. He was a joy to listen to and when he was paired with Jim Brady or, I think , Eric Armit, they were often a lot more interesting than the fight. If he was on DAZN he'd be sensational but the powers that be would hate him after all I think Mike Costello was too much for them. Ive emailed him a few times and hes replied. What a man !

I remember when him and Jim Brady were together for the Atlanta Olympics, it was absolutely hilarious. While Steve doesn't have the smooth tones of Harry or Ian, he's always a good listen.

He came out with some classics and if a fight was shit, he'd say it was shit.

Jim Brady used to write some funny stuff… I remember him describing a chubby heavyweight as looking like melted chocolate mousse…. He would also not hold back on calling out poor matches etc

Agree with that , I've always enjoyed his commentary and he's boxed before so knows a bit more than most IMO.
Bit too honest for his own good when watching a mismatch and probably why he's been overlooked by the bigger TV companies, their loss.

Haha, yeah, he was fearless. His book was fantastic too. A personal favourite of mine was him describing a Mexican heavyweight as being 'such a stiff, he should have been led to the ring by pallbearers'
