Haye result...

Bermondsey's highly-rated cruiserweight David Haye claimed his eighth consecutive victory by stopping Lolenga Mock of the Congo in the fourth round at Reading's Rivermead.

The Denmark-based Mock did send Haye to the canvas for the first time in his career but the Englishman was able to get back to his feet.

Mock arrived with just six defeats from his previous 28 fights, but despite his reputation for durability he looked like suffering an early defeat here when a right-hander to the head sent him down midway through the opener.

However, the gutsy African managed to hang on until the bell before completely turning the tables on his much-hyped opponent by dropping him with a huge right to the chin in the very next session.

Haye rose groggily at a count of eight but was rocked again by another similar shot and he looked more than a little relieved to hear the bell without taking any further punishment.

A quieter third round saw Haye regain the upper hand behind the busy left jab before Mock rallied again early in the next to bang home another right to the chin.

This time though Haye took the shot well and replied almost immediately with a crunching right uppercut which had the crowd on their feet and sent Mock crashing to the canvas.

The African needed all of referee Mark Green's count but appeared able to continue. Mr Green, however, saw things differently and waved a halt much to the annoyance of the crowd who roundly booed the decision.

Is this the Mock who recently lost to Kai Kurzawa, if so he is decent but nothing more than a blown up Light Heavyweight. He clearly beat Kurzawa but was robbed, this is a shocking development. How can he take Carl Thompson's power if he cannot take this guys?

yes it is the same mock,

looking forward to watching it

What the f#ck, this Mock has no power whatsoever.
This guy never won a fight outside of Africa, just 5 KO's out of 21 fights, and he fought at light-heavy a few months ago.

He was a lot smaller than Kai Kurzawa who is 6'2. Seemed like a very awkward fighter in that fight.

Steve: This makes Kai look like GOD again! (Which he is, of course)

This is a bad, bad sign for Haye.
Can't wait to see the fight.
I hope this was just a fluke

You know what mate, that is the exact same thing I thought when I read about the result.

Wake up call time for Haye, look forward to watching the fight :)

Ok watched it now. Hmm, not sure really. Haye took that shot high on the temple, which does tend to make fighters do the funny dance. Even if it is a blown up super middle throwing the punch.

I aint gonna read to much into this fight, I think Haye is still a big talent, but obviously his aura of invincibilty has been somewhat shattered. Still, he was very honest in his post fight interview, and I admire him for that.

Roll on the next fight :)

i am worried. i posted a review on the main forum in more detail, but to me Haye looks like at world level he may emerge to be the typical British knock out or get knocked out fighter.

I REALLY REALLY don't want this to be the case, but i am afraid it may well be. i'm so disappointed.

i don't understand the carl thompson comment steve. do you actually think thompson hits harder than Haye???!

Haye can still hit the heights with that talent and big punching.

But I think his achilles chin - or temple - was shown to future opponents - like he very honestly admitted after.
Has to keep that left up though, like he didn't do after the knockdown..

Down the road Haye v Enzo will be fun - Defintely would be explosive while it lasted.

a disgraceful stoopage guys.

that congo fella was NO WAY in as bad a state as haye was when he staggered up like a drunk.

complete bullshit.

i thought haye was world level but he fought like shit and even got put down very hard by this journeyma.

looks like that rumoured glass chin is true.

haye got lucky thanks to the ref protecting him and to me he didnt look guaranteed to win at all.

not so high on haye anymore.

ho hum...........

Yeah I thought the stoppage was fast, Haye was looked after by the ref there.

Got to say he's honset though, he admitted it after and also mentioned it's not hard to put him over - don't recall ever hearing a fighter say that before...

I was at the fight. It was stopped too soon, the ref must have been under orders.

Haye showed some guts . He's not just a pretty boy, but he seems to lose his composure when he gets caught clean. He got a bad chin.

Carl Thompson would knock Haye's head OFF. Mok has fought recently at super middleweight. Mok weighed 183 (but looked like he could make 175, whilst haye weighed 194.

Haye could be good but he (and Danny Williams) need to tell Adam Booth to fornicate off. He should stick to training kids. I was watching Booth between rounds. He's no boxing coach.

Haye and Williams would be better of with someone like Jim Evans or Chris Sanigar.

Am I right in thinking that Haye got KO'd by Courtney Fry in the Amatuers?

I'm a bit of a Haye fan but worry he could turn out to be the next Herbie Hide, lots of talent, good puncher, fast hands, nice moves etc but weak chin.

I really hope Haye proves me wrong.

Don't know about Fry, but Haye had a bad knockout loss in the amateurs to Jim Twite (?), who I think was a blown up middle. Looks like the slightly fragile rumours are true.

He can still go on to have a good career if he keeps that left up, gets a better trainer ( like Knockout Artist says ) and he needs a manager too.
If you're a very good offensive fighter w/ a dodgy chin you can still make waves - Roger Mayweather springs to mind - and look how Enzo is sitting pretty at the moment too..

I suppose you could add Tommy Morrison and Mike Weaver to the list also of big punchers with weak chins who still made waves in the world scene. I agree with your opinions on Haye completely, as for the Fry/Haye thing it's just something I'm sure I read somewhere.

Hey, the stoppage was dodgy in the extreme, but I don't think it effected the result.
The most significnt things for me were firstly the low left before AND AFTER the knockdown.
And Hayes refusal to hold (although the wrestling bit post knockdown was sensible).

"HOLD YOU D*CK" was the shout comming from the house of Priff.

I think it is clear now (as it was before for most) that Haye is going to have to change the way he fights (i.e. his hand position) if he is to progress. And personally, I don't think he will (out of choice).

Mock got shafted on Saturday. No way was he as badly hurt as Haye was, finishes like that make me embarrassed to be a boxing fan.

Coupled with the Danny Williams farce it totally spoiled what should have been a good night for British boxing.

I didn't like the stoppage at all but then it seemed like Haye would only have gone over and decapitated the bloke. What a truly devastating uppercut that was to send him down, I'm amazed Mock got to his feet in the first place.

I don't think Haye has a glass jaw. That had to be one of the worst punches he could've taken, and he got clipped with a few flush shots to the chin afterwards that didn't bother him too much.

What an exciting couple of fights, I just wish I could've resisted checking out the results beforehand!

It was actually Haye who KO'ed Fry in the London Divs - Haye was himself stopped by Jim Twite.

Friday's fight was worrying but not necessarily a bad thing. Perhaps Haye will re evaluate and go back to the drawing board, look to be less flash and offensive minded and actually become a better fighter for it?
