it was a very very close fight.
rasani could have easily won this fight.
dickinson is a far better amateur than a pro. its early on in his career but he looks very very average.
if he faced any 1 who is half decent at l. heavy he would get k.o.d
and the likes of
oakey
cleverly
bellew
jeffries
it wouldnt go past 4 rounds.
not trying to put the lad down, but iv heard allot of people talk about dickinson and every fight iv seen of him i havnt seen 1 thing that looks like he could become a good prospect.
the only thing i would say is above average, is his power.
but saying that i still dont think thats great, as going the full distance with rasani who is a 35 year old man with allot of miles on his clock, doesnt suggest he is up there with the other big punches.

So what you're saying is that Dickinson, a five fight novice who has just completed his first six-rounder would get kayoed by
Cleverly - the British, Commonwealth & soon to be European champion who is ranked in the top 10 of all major governing bodies
Oakey - a former British & Commonwealth champ
Fry - a Commonwealth gold medalist whose already fought for domestic titles
Men with far more experience than him.
Even the Bellew comparision isn't fair. Dickinson's been a pro, what, some 10 months, and he's getting matched up against the best the domestic scene can offer?
I remember a while back somebody tried to downplay Bellew's power on the basis that he failed to stop Ayitey Powers when Nathan Cleverly had, using similar logic to your own. Rasani maybe 'a 35 year old man with a lot of miles on his clock' but he is also a cruiserweight who was considerably bigger than Dickinson. 9 Pounds heavier if Boxrec is to be believed.
Maybe we should assess Dickinson when he approaches title level.

first things first we wont be able to asses dickinson when he approaches title level, coz he will never ever get near title level. (no where near good enough)
yes ok hes only had 5 fights. but he still should be looking decent when he fights, but hes not is he he has looked bellow average in all his fights.
he believes he has the power to trade with people when he doesnt even punch hard. he will have a very short career if he keeps his poor defenses up.
you say hes fighting the best the domestic scene can offer. (is that a joke or something) rasani is not the best the scene has to offer,
he was very very lucky to get the decision against rasini it was a close fight that he won by 1 point. you say it was his 5th fight. bellew fought rasani in his 6th fight and k.o.d him in 1 round, so thats not really an excuse why he struggled and looked so 5hit against rasani is it?
dickinson is ranked higher than jeffries but it wouldnt be a fight if they fought.
the same with allot of other fighters in his weight. out the top 10 he would maybe beat 2 at the most.
he has got so much to learn but of what every 1 has seen so far there is nothing to get exited about 1 bit.

It's only early days for the lad and maybe he can work on things that will throw him into title fights (British at best imo), but right now am struggling to see anything special in the kid.
Maybe his power is decent, but i'd have hoped he could get Rasani out of there. I'd have anyone who can box a little to beat him.
Hope am wrong though, i like to see all 'prospects' do well.

thats exactly the way i see it my self jbacca
early days but every good prospect in there early fights you see something that impresses you, and you can see they have tallent, in dickinson i dont see anything at all worth get remotely excited about

"rasani who is a 35 year old man with allot of miles on his clock"
and very very good at slipping punches... that said, Bellew was in a similar stage of his career when he stopped him in the first.

to be fair dickinson was huge at the weight when he beat groves. travis is now a cruiserweight and groves a super-middleweight. travis was a terrific amateur but this talk of dickinson fighting better opposition then groves is nonsence. who would you say is better paul samuels or rasani??

rasani has been ko'd 19 times and has a terrible losing record.travis is fighting english lads is he?? he has fought 1 fighter that was born in britain. same with groves and most prospects. the rest are africans who claim to be english.

british fighters simply dont want to fight all these young guys.. if i were maloney i would bring travis on slowly and let him learn his trade. he seemed to gung ho against rasani. hopefully he can have a good career.

Sorry. I didn't make myself clear. I didn't mean to suggest Dickinson had been matched against the best the domestic scene had to offer, I was trying to point out the absurdity of your post. You stated that a five fight novice, who hasn't been beyond six rounds would get beaten by the current British & Commonwealth champion (who is rated in the top ten of all four major governing bodies) & a former British & Commonwealth champion. Why are you making such banal assertions? Of course they'd beat him convincingly. Does it need saying?
And it's pretty simplistic to judge a fighter on the basis of one performance. Using your logic, Courtney Fry must hit harder than Tony Bellew, as he stopped Nick Okoth in one round, & Bellew took three.
Just admit it, you've been pretty OTT & premature in your dismissal of Dickinson.

my first point
you say of course he would get beat by the commonwealth and britsh champion as tho i just mentioned him. i said the top 10 if you look back. i was simply saying that there are at least 7-8 fighters out the top ten that would beat him.
you also say
And it's pretty simplistic to judge a fighter on the basis of one performance. Using your logic, Courtney Fry must hit harder than Tony Bellew, as he stopped Nick Okoth in one round, & Bellew took three.
the big difference is in the statment its self. bellew took longer to k.o okoth. bellew may have stopped okoth in a round or two later but he still stoped him early on. its not like he won by 1 point. i mean bellew k.od rasini in 1 round its not like dickinson k.od him in 3-4-5-or 6 he won by 1 point. the way dickinson fights its as tho hes a huge puncher who is willing to stand and trade in the middle of the ring. clearly if rasani didnt even get floored by him then he doesnt hit half as hard as he thinks does he???
another thing you say is hes only had 5 fights hes still in the learning stage. i couldnt agree with that more but when ever a really good prospect comes onto the scene, the same way some people mention dickinsons name in the same bracket as a good prospect. they may have only had a hand full of fights but you can still see the potential, and see some good things they do in the ring, i havnt been remotely impressed with any single thing dickinson has done so far. he has no defence, no stamina, hasnt got 1 punch power, and isnt fast at all.
i hope he proves me wrong as the more british fighters that we have the better for the sport, but on the 5hit iv seen off him so far i wont hold my breath
unless there is a huge huge improvement then i cant see him winning anything what so ever, and this opinion is not based on watching him once or twice, iv watched him 3 times and not once have i thought this kid could go far

Give the kid a chance guys he had hardly no senior experience and is still very young, I've said this many times, Rasani is a handful if you let him into the fight, I remember David Haye telling me don't let him get into his groove cos he'll cause anyone problems when he's on the front foot..
Don't know why my name is being brought up in this..

Styles make fights it's as simple as that guys.. Just give the kid a break..

Sorry. I wasn't having a go. I just remembered a trouble maker last year trying to claim that you had no power on the basis that you didn't knock out Ayitey Powers, and 'feather-fisted' (his words, not mine) Nathan Cleverly did, when you quite rightly pointed out you fought Powers over 4, & Cleverly stopped him in 6.
I was trying to illustrate the pointlessness of trying to judge a fighter based on
A) a common opponent
B) on a single fight.

Don't be soft mate you have point and are entitled to make it.. ;;-) Travis is a good kid, It's not very fair for him to be judged yet as he never had senior experience and fighting bigger and stronger men than yourself is a very hard to do especially when so young..
I believe he'll come good in the end.. ;;-)
