I am looking for fight footage of famous referee's such as Cotton, Byrd, Lipton, Steele and Lane. Does anyone know where I can get any from?
I have the FOTY between Torres and Cotton.

The Eddie Cotton who fought Torres died of cancer years ago. He is not the ref of the same name.

Some referees who boxed a little bit:
Gunboat Smith-see Sharkey/Schmeling II for starters
Kid McPartland--many important fights in the teens, 1920's
Jim Jeffries
Benny Leonard
Billy Graham

Max Baer, Jack Sharkey, Jack Dempsey, Max Schmeling, Joe Walcott, Joe Loius, Mushy Callaghan.
Most of them fought better than they refereed.

Ruby Goldstein.
He was the ref in the tragic Giffith- Paret fight.

A few have been flat out KO'd. And that usually gets the audiences attention right away, have you noticed?

Jack Sharkey was the ref of the great Archie Moore-Yvon Durelle first fight.

It was the
robbery of the year.
Cotton beat Torres thoroughly.
The decision was the worst I have ever seen other than the Jimmy Young-Ali travesty of a decision.

I've seen that before and it may be the best example of all time.

Mills Lane and Richard Steele both boxed. I saw Steele when he was a light heavyweight and I remember him as a competent fighter.

The same Richard STEAL who gave Leonard over thirty warnings by name for holding against Hagler without ever taking a point away?
The same Richard STEAL who stood by and grinned and never said a word while Leonard punched after the bell in 5 out of the 12 rounds?

Kid McPartland, top level lightweight in the late 1890's who lost a title fight by decision to Kid Lavigne and fought Gans a number of times
refereed a number of Benny Leonard's fights 20 years later.
Former lightweight champion Willie Ritchie refereed the Young Corbett II-Jack Thompson bout.

Patsy Haley fought Terry McGovern, George Dixon and Abe Attell. I have his officiating job in Tony Canzoneri vs Frankie Klick II on film. He once went 18 rounds with "Terrible" Terry McGovern.

Thanks for that, A.
I have never seen Klick.
A pity there there is no record of McPartland's comments on comparing Gans (who he fought repeatedly) and Benny Leonard (whose fights he refereed years later).
The same with Haley comparing McGovern to the later top-level fighters whose fights he refereed.
