Just saw a documentary on ESPN about Robinson and got a few questions...

Bert Sugar says that Robinson beat the most champs of all-time, how many did he beat and who's in 2nd place?

How many HOF's did he beat? Also 1st all-time? Anyone know his record against them?

Why didn't he fight for the World Light Heavyweight championship again after losing due to heat exhaustion? He proved he could fight with Maxim.

Edit...I see he retired after the Maxim fight, but could he have fought the LHW champ when he got back and won?

He retired after the fight for two and a half years. He probably thought of the loss as a victory of sorts. He'd showed he could outperform the lightheavy champion for 13 rounds.

Archie Moore was the Light-Leavy champ when he returned after Maxim and that was a completely different proposition for someone who walked arround at 160lb. On top of that he went 4-4 in Middleweight Title fights on his return, so it wouldn't have made for an overly credable fight at the time.

..sugar ray challenged maxim because maxim had virtually no punch. (He was one helluva boxer though,and with a great chin.) The word around at the time was srr wanted to win the light heavy title and retire without defending it. he knew he couldn't give away that weight against the power punchers in that division.(archie moore. danny nardico, bob satterfield, harold johnson for starters)

i think one thing sugar ray underrated was maxim's physical strength, which played a part in srr collapse.

when sugar ray made his comeback, it was in the middleweight division where he could fight at his best weight.

Maxim manhandled Robinson in the later rounds.

Robinson found he had no knockout punch against a good 175 pounder like Maxim.

And Robinson wore himself out flailing at Maxim.
