joe is a great trainer and seems a top bloke. big mistake by macklin. he will have to fight his fights in and around roach's main asset's. give it 2 months and macklin will be after a new trainer. expect inactivity from macklin also

I think it's a big mistake for him to have left Gallagher. Changing trainers all the time isn't healthy IMO.

bang on the money from joe...
There were reasons for his departure - it was difficult and expensive to get top-class sparring partners for him while Roach already has the likes of Felix Sturm in his stable.

There is also the fact that Matthew had the chance to work with the No 1 coach in the world right now and I have to take it as a compliment that he felt the only way up was to go to Roach after such a successful spell with me.

probably be left in the corner at the wildcard.& he could get banged up in sparring there.

calzaghe done well enough as did hatton, lame excuse on the sparring.

Classy response from Joe, I think he will definitely have more champions in his stable.

Load of rubbish, he wont get banged up in sparring at all. John Murray sparred ricky hatton before ricky fought castillo (wasnt it) and theres a world of difference in quality at the respective times between Muray and hatton then, and Macklin and Sturm now.

Calzaghe and ricky flew sparring partners form accross the globe in, sparring is one of the most essential aspects of preparing yourself for a big fight. Big figh in little pond, or little fish in big pond.

Do you disagree with Khan moving to the wildcard? getting "banged up" against pacquiao?

Macklin did very well with Gallagher I think he may live to regret leaving him, I dont see him getting that much attension under Freddy Roach maybe im wrong though.

Roach is unquestionably one of the best in the game, but I have feeling that leaving Gallagher could be a mistake.

Also, surely a domestic blockbuster with Barker is now dead in the water.
