they say murtagh. this happened the last time aswellDeno1986 wrote:Was it Fitzy or Murtagh who pulled out Rock?
I have seen it posted on here before that he is notorious for pulling out of fights close to the date. Maybe he is just very injury prone. Still a decent card though.rocky2009 wrote:they say murtagh. this happened the last time aswellDeno1986 wrote:Was it Fitzy or Murtagh who pulled out Rock?
Does this now mean that Murtaghs name has official become mud in Ireland?jonny wrote:suprised he's allowed to fight Pro anyway when he has been so actively involved in unlicensed boxing
He holds an Irish licence and therefore flies under that radar of the BBBoC. Crafty!jonny wrote:suprised he's allowed to fight Pro anyway when he has been so actively involved in unlicensed boxing
He boxed in York in October, though,so hes not exactly hiding.I have seen him at a couple of amateur shows round Yorkshire as well so hes involved at literally all levels!slapbangwhallop wrote:He holds an Irish licence and therefore flies under that radar of the BBBoC. Yeah, he holds an Irish licence so is registered in the UK as a foriegn fighter.mickey1975 wrote:He boxed in York in October, though,so hes not exactly hiding.I have seen him at a couple of amateur shows round Yorkshire as well so hes involved at literally all levels!slapbangwhallop wrote:He holds an Irish licence and therefore flies under that radar of the BBBoC. He was hauled before the Central Area Council a couple of years ago for his involvement with the EBF, he took great delight in telling them they could stuff their license as he intended boxing on an Irish one for the remainder of his career. How come the BBBC take a dim view of involvement with unlicensed boxing but the BUI turns a blind eye?slapbangwhallop wrote:He holds an Irish licence and therefore flies under that radar of the BBBoC. A. The BUI may not know of his activity in unlicenced boxing.Burnt-Norton wrote:He was hauled before the Central Area Council a couple of years ago for his involvement with the EBF, he took great delight in telling them they could stuff their license as he intended boxing on an Irish one for the remainder of his career. Whilst I feel for Fitzy I wouldnt like to turn this into a opportunity to "Murtagh Bash" without hearing his side of the story.Burnt-Norton wrote:In previous Irish title shots Murtagh has withdrawn against Rock (at the weigh) he was stopped by Healy (a man with only one previous stoppage on his record) he pulled out against Fitzgerald last time at less than a weeks notice (but acted as referee at two unlicensed shows the same week) so why he got this shot is a mystery. I really feel for poor Fitzgerald and hope he finally gets his title shot. Murtagh is ostensibly a full time pro, he lives at home with his parents 100 yards away from the gym where he runs his unlicensed empire and does a bit of door work. Fitzgerald no doubts has a full time job, mortgage, wife, kids etc and has to fit his training in round all this to be let down TWICE.
As someone states above Murtagh's track record for last minute pull outs is well established, it's odd that his pull outs always occur with 'live' opponents but he has no problem showing up when he is facing the Gierkes, Roystons, Drakes, Dunns etc
He is due to take part in a charity exhibition against former football star Lee Chapman next month, wonder if he will be 'fit' for that one?

Andrew, when exactly did he injure it?Wake up call wrote:I train with Lee occasionally and can assure you that his injury is genuine. He twisted his knee while sparring and his leg is all bruised and black. He has been to physio several times to try and keep the fight on but has had to concede he is unfit to fight. He is gutted.
why dont they put rock v sweeney for light-heavy titlesligobhoy67 wrote:Andrew, when exactly did he injure it?Wake up call wrote:I train with Lee occasionally and can assure you that his injury is genuine. I believe it was last Saturday. He was going to fight anyway because he didn't want to let anyone down despite eveyone telling him not to. It turns out that the injury is more serious than first thought and physio told him not to bother a couple of days back.sligobhoy67 wrote:Andrew, when exactly did he injure it?Wake up call wrote:I train with Lee occasionally and can assure you that his injury is genuine.
