Hello,

Billy "Pop" Humphries was my grandfather, he was born in England and started his boxing career there in the early 1920's. Then came to the United States, settled in New York and finished his carreer. Does anyone have any information about him other than the published boxing record on this site? After he died, my father gave me his scrapbook, full of black and white pictures of himself and other boxers, newspaper clippings and articles. He was in a movie called "The Pace That Thrills", I believe this was filmed sometime in the late 1920's. I've been trying to find information about this movie as well.

Thanks

Hello,

I have a couple of photo's of a boxer called pop humphries who was boxing in the 1920's. He was my great grandfather's brother who was James Humphries. If it is the same man he was born at number 8 Queens road, Mortlake, SW14. I know that he was involved in a tragic boxing bout with Ted Shepherd in London which Ted died after the fight. I would be very interested to know if this is the same man ?

Thanks

Hello,

I believe we are talking about same man, I remember my grandfather telling me about one of his fights that ended up with the tragic death of a boxer sometime in the 1920's. My grandfather's name was William George Humphries and was born in England. It looks as though we are related, I live in California USA and my email address is [email protected], I would really like to hear from you.

-William

Hi there, so glad I have come accross this. I am finding out more about my grandads family. So he said...
His dad was from mortlake Surrey, had 3 brothers Joseph, James and a champion fly/featherweight boxer. So my great grandfather was Edward Humphries and married Annie. Does this help? Would love to hear from you.
[email protected].
If you have any photos I would love to show my grandad.
Thanks again x

Hi tzwilliam,
Do you have anymore information about the movie? We have been looking into it and he isn’t on any of the casts for the film you mentioned.
Cosmicblast do you have any information about your great grandfather James. Would love to see some photos.
It seemed they were a large family of 16.
Thanks so much
Charlene

Hi, Keith Humphries was my father who sadly passed away last year. His dad, Joseph Humprhies was Williams brother. I remember him coming over from the US when he had aged a bit. He stayed with my Nan & Grandad for a short while before moving on.

Hello
I am "Pops" Granddaughter in California. I am trying to retrieve his birth certificate. Is there any relative in England that knows his father and mother's name including his mothers maiden name? Thank you for any help you have to offer.
Best!!
