big upset in sheffield this evening...

well well well, i went to sheffield city hall tonight to watch the fight academy bill, i was particularly interested to see the ongoing progress of liam cameron as i had read and heard good things about him.
i saw spud there (so much for his holiday, or is he back?) but he did not see me, he was having a fall out with dennis hobson, i heard dennis tell our spud to 'eff off and go and work for w@rren if he does not like the fight academy set up', spud promptly went red and stomped off, not to be seen again , it looked like someone else took over the 'whip' duties. is this the beginning of the end in the relationship between spud and dennis???

So, not actually an "upset" in the boxing ring, just yet more irrelvant jabber about the "politics" and "personalities" of the "boxing world."
Sorry to sound so vicious, but there has been too much Eastenders style tittle tattle recently, and far too few decent bouts.
It would have been nice, for example, if you mentioned some results from the bouts (if they are worth mentioning).

not too much to mention, izzy won on his debut, but failed to impress, liam won, silky skills, good footwork and fast hands, but im afraid his lack of a 'dig' will probably mean he does not make it to the top.
was nice to see witter, pickering, silky jones, clinton woods etc at ringside. nice venue, good atmosphere for a small hall crowd.

Liam Cameron beat Kevin McCauley Pts 6 (60-55)
Kyle Whitham beat Lee Duncan Pts 6
Mark Krence beat Hastings Rasani Pts 6
Izzy beat Chris Lewis Pts 6
Adam Kelly beat Matt Seawright RSF 1 (16 seconds!!!!)
Impressed yet again with Liam - excellent defence, excellent skills and with regards to Rhino's comments concerning "power" we will see who is right or wrong - I remain totally convinced Liam has a very bright future in the sport - we will see how far the lad goes. Izzy (not sure of his full name) made his pro debut and sold a fair amount of tickets - his supporters made the atmosphere a very good one.
With regards to Rhino's other comments - never let the truth get in the way of a "bit of stick" - Rhino is a master at stirring the spoon!!!
- he knows full well and was indeed part of the conversation when I was "spitting feathers" concerning the comments on this very forum of what I believe is the best promoter in Europe - Mr W arren. I feel the abuse has gone too far. Perhaps forum members should concentrate their comments and threads on here to Journalists who continue to ignore the sport in favour of writing about "tiddliwinks" or "fishing" - then when they are challenged why boxing is not written about too much in the papers they come out with the weak and spineless excuse of "The Editor" will not allow it.
Furthermore - there should be more threads concerning TV coverage - or should I say "the weak and recent un-exciting coverage" which is full of mismatches - at first I was thinking of blaming the BBBofC or even the promoter - why should they take the blame when TV executives continue to allow what is in my view "p*ss poor" shows which is meant to showcase our great sport to the general public on our screens.
As with regards to Rhino - I am a compassionate man - he is a shadow of his former self - on collecting his ticket at the door from Fight Academy staff - which incidentally was "complimentary" - it was commented by several people that the former "warrior and hero of the forums" looked overweight, scruffy and in URGENT need of a hair transplant as the one strand of hair in the middle of his head was simply not covering his bald patch - good old father time has caught up on him - it was good to see him again.
Anyhow - got to pack my suitcase again - off again - not a holiday - the job is keeping me busy just wish it would pay more!!

Rhino forgets it was me who took him behind the scenes to introduce him to Liam Cameron and Izzy - in addition he said hello to my wife as she gave him his "complimentary" ticket.
Rhino has a superb sense of humour - please read my post above again - he knows I am annoyed at people like yourself giving Mr W arren so much stick - incidentally - I am totally delighted you were "ejected" from a show the other week - perhaps I shall get security to do the same the next time we meet!!!

Hello Eric - I am hearing from the bloke at my corner shop that the very man you seem to do so well at "teamaking" is putting together a very good show in April.
Come on Eric - see if you can make constructive comment concerning Liam Cameron - personally I think he could be very good indeed - how far he goes - lets see - if its domestic level - fine - any further we will have to wait and see - he has a lot to prove.
What are your thoughts on the lad - I am sure you saw plenty of his fights as an amateur?

Smoggy,
Good write up that - although you were almost asked to leave due to the typical scruffy nature you turn up to shows - you wouldn't see Ben Carey like that.

Firstly, good luck with the job-hunting Spud. Surely only a matter of time before you're part of Sports Network

Your other comments are just naive unfortunately.
Firstly, how is doing what your manager or boss asks you to do somehow weak and spineless? How long do you think you would last in a job if you chose to ignore your manager's directive? In fact, tell me any environment where people are willing to jeopardise their income to stand up to their boss?
The other thing you always ignore is that newspapers and magazines are a business - they are not a charity, they are there to make money. To do this they have to get as many readers as possible, and if they can get more readers from covering football, rugby etc then that's what they'll do.
As for TV execs, I understand your sentiment, but equally imagine what a nightmare it must be for them having to deal with some of the personalities in the boxing world, the fragmented belts, the different organsiations, the 'toothless' governing body etc. Imagine how different their experience of dealing with other sports such as rugby and cricket must be...
These execs also won't necessarily be specialists and so won't possess the body of knowledge about one specific sport that allows them to distinguish hype from reality, and so have to rely on third parties for information.

spudly spudly, i am sat here shaking my head at your post, how dare you insinuate a 'cadged' a freebie from FA, i still have my ticket here now, it clearly states £30 on it, it does not include the word 'complimentary' .... and how dare you take the piss out of my appearence when you strut round looking like a cross between the lead part in 'the king and i' ... and a bit part in 'the royle family' ....
you should respect the views of and the way dennis runs things, he puts on great shows, FW is a complete knob jockey and i am astounded that you are now polishing his bell end !!

Mr Deserter,
Thank you for the response - perhaps the basis for worthwhile "boxing debate"
You and others state my opinions are "naive" - I of course do not think so.
Its all very well blaming the promoter, the relevant governing body etc etc etc - however the promoter has a business to run and as such its his job to make money and at the sametime to further his boxers in the easiest, cost effective timely way possible - the governing body is not there for quality control in my view - its most paramount function in my view is that of "safety" - if a fight is "safe" and all the relevant parties in that I mean the fighters and the promoter are happy then f*ck it go ahead - the refereee can soon stop the fight if it is apparent one of the fighters is going to take a beating - the quality control comes in as I believe at TV level - they are not as stupid as your post implies - they have many an "expert" amongst their ranks to know whether a fight will sell or get the viewers tuning in.
I had a choice last night whether to go to a "white collar" show where approximately 600 tickets had been sold - the top of the bill is only a big name in the town he lives in and will never ever make it in the professional ranks - punters paid exactly the same amount of money as the show I chose to go to in Sheffield - what I couldnt understand it that a white collar event probably made more money than the professional show - some will say - that is the job of the promoter to sell his show regardless of the standard of the event and good luck to them all. W
The point I am making is unless boxing starts at its "showpiece" events - TV shows - where TV puts on genuine quality bills - then the punter will continue to drift here and there to get his/her thrills from whatever show is put on in their town - professional or not!!!
A lad who wants to box, make a name for himself and make money no longer has to be a professional boxer - worse still I spoke to a couple of lads who went to the white collar event - they are glad they cancelled their sky subscriptions - "why watch that sh*t on TV - when I can go to the local leisure centre to see a genuine fight - who gives a f*ck what the standard of scrap it is - as long as it is a fight" - there is not a lot I could answer in reply to him.
Anyhow Mr Deserter - seriously pal - the last time I got behind a fighter properly was Carl Froch - despite the avalanche of abuse that come my way concerning his defence etc etc he made it to being a world champion - I am now getting behind Liam Cameron for 2 reasons - firstly and obviously - I am completely and utterly biaised as he is a Dennis Hobson Promotions fighter - secondly and of course more importantly - I think the guy is very talented - how far he will go - thats for him to prove - but it will be exciting to see how far he can progress.
Watch his progression - thats all I am saying.

I of course agree concerning your compliments concerning Dennis Hobson - good bloke and bloody good promoter and the right person to guide Liam Cameron - with regards to your comments concerning Liam's power - wait and see until Liam fights a bloke who genuinally comes to win and thinks he will win and thus leaves himself a tadge open to a fighter of Cameron's skills.
With regards to your comments concerning Mr W arren - I am stunned you have yet again bent over to take one up your rather fat ar*e from the internet "bullies" in that you feel compelled to fall into line with the slatings Mr W arren gets on here - he is this countries and Europe's leading promoter by a country mile

Opened this thread thinking Liam Cameron had lost - thanks Ian for the report on the boxing.
Just a quick note about the "shite" boxing that is on our screens presently....... take a look at Hatton promotions - they've been fantastically competitive (on paper) bills right the way down its undercard. Okay, Lawton got smashed - but look how many people tipped him to win (including Boxing News).
Their bills have been a breath of fresh air..... but...... HALF FULL small halls. How long will they maintain it.

Spudster,
I think you should consider the wording of your last post seriously mate.
Are you saying that Liam's opponents thus far have not turned up to win or to fight back ?
Of course Liam is on a learning curve and a lot of what Mr Smedley has said recently is very relevent.
As a Sheffield lad I really hope he makes it to the top.
Good luck to everyone within the camp.
Stu,
I do firmly believe Hatton Promotions are in it for the long haul.
You are right though, unless joe public supports the events, even millionaires aren't going to continually pour money down the drain.

I agree a lot of Hatton Promotions shows have had competitive fights on their undercards - however were they worthy of a TV show when you put it into context that Hennessy Sports cannot get a show like Carl Froch and Co on our screens?
Stu - you like your boxing - keep your eyes on Liam Cameron - I have already stated I am heavily biaised - I just think the lads style suits the professional circuit well and I think he will do well - as I stated to you and others concerning Carl Froch - "get on the train before it leaves the platform" - otherwise you will have "Mr Spud" stating I told you so!!!

Nice try to belittle my post Twenty Six - you know exactly what I mean.
Such a shame you have fallen out with Mr W arren!!! - I believe you were stating something completely different after Ryan's fantastic win against Jamie Moore - that is of course when you thought Mr W arren was back in favour and would still have something to do with Ryan's future career - I am sure you mentioned a meeting that went very well!!! - I note you find it easy to belittle me and my posts but I remember you being rather excited concerning Ryan's career and you did not see it as a problem concerning the "joint managers" contract when I raised my reservations concerning that very aspect.
I hope Ryan continues to thrive and I hope boxing politics does not get in the way of the lads career just when he has fought so hard to fight his way to the top - but I find it utterly disgusting you find it very easy to highlight my inconsistencies - yet you fail to deal with your own!!!

Mr Deserter!!!
Lets deal with the journalist issue - I have always argued if a journalist decides to write something then all he needs to do is get approval for the article from his Editor. It is the publications like newspapers which create public interest - the public do not necessarily always demand certain types of article their interest is generated or fuelled by the journalist writing the article in the first place - thus why cant the journalist do that for boxing???
I will state again - its the newspaper that creates the interest in the first place - that is why promoters fall over themselves to court favour with the journalists to write nice things about them and to continue to write about their fighters in their paper. If I am wrong why do journalist continually get invited to posh lunches and posh meals the night before a major championship fight?
A very simplistic argument - but a very true one!!!

You don't think the editors have any idea what will sell papers??? You don't think editors tell the journos where to go?
If there is a footie/rugby game clashing with a boxing match....... the editor will tell them to go to the footie - simple as.
