I think Hopkins would make sure he priced himself out of a fight, with Haye, if it ever looked like happening. I wouldn't be surprised though if Hopkins had a crack against Ruiz if he were to beat Haye. Ruiz would be a much better match up for Hopkins than Haye.

Hasn't he milked enough of HBO's money now ?
Fight Chad vs Pascal winner or bore off.

Think Hopkins wants the fight as he seems desperate to make his legacy better than RJJ

Why fight a completely irrelevant RJJ now then? He may be older than Jones but only the most casual of fans will fail to realise Jones is a world more shot.

is hopkins v jones actually signed and sealed? hopkins has named a lot of heavys hed supposedly fight adamek, maskaev and now haye. I agree he should fight either dawson or pascal and forget haye whos not a one dimensional lump like ruiz hed beast hopkins badly

as do I if it came off. Skills are light years ahead of Hayes.

hopkins has fought one authentic light heavyweight (Tarver), has failed to successfully negotiate fights with 3 cruiserweights (toney, adamek, green). don't hold your breath, re a heavyweight title shot.
haye has told glyn leach he won't fight hopkins. haye wants he big heavyweight fights i.e. vitali.
so what if hopkins wants it? haye seems to have a say in how his own career plays out; always has.

hopkins is a spoiler who refuses to lead and take a risk. he just dances outside, does just enough to lose but gets the sentimental vote ("if only he was a bit younger...") & good money, & finds a way to talk himself into another dreary "big fight." did it twice v taylor, once vs calzaghe & it wears really thin. he had the reflexes to use that style when he was 36 (and then it was vs 150-160-pounders), but sadly not at 45 (vs cruiserweights and heavyweights).

You never know with Hopkins as he is clealy the better fighter.
Pre the Thompson fight Hopkins would have had no trouble as Haye ran out of gas easily.
Haye has remedied that problem now though so Hopkins would have to be on his bike for this one.
BHOP would have to pull some Calzaghe type 'low blows' to waste some time as Haye would after him the whole fight. You never know though as Haye has even said about himself that he is chinny.

Chinny, yeah, but when hit by someone with some clout. BHop, for all his skills, is not a big puncher at light heavy, never mind cruiser, never mind heavy!! Haye at this time is three stones heavier than Hopkins, and would win with a KO without a shadow of a doubt. If BHop tried to even up the odds by putting some weight on, his speed would be nowhere near enough to catch or avoid Haye. Simply a bigger man, I respect Hopkins but it's delusional o think he'd have a chance against Haye.

Hopkins isn't a big puncher I agree but he is accurate and Haye is wide open.
You can't say Hopkins would be knocked out without doubt, he has managed quite nicely upto now. Haye hasn't got his number just because he's heavier and can punch harder. Hopkins knows how to box and keep put of trouble, it's not delusional at all.

a lot of people seem to think that david haye is a face first banger with no chin and no skills. You dont win a world silver in the amateur s if you cant box. I could never imagine hopkins being the aggressor and doing what he did against a vastly overrated kelly pavlik to david
haye by ko but this fight would never happen. hes a good solid heavy who is not there for the taking especially by a 43 year old ex middleweight

Only way to beat Hopkins is to outwork him. You should never underestimate the craftyness of Bhop. even at 43, he would certainly surprise the big young hungry Haye. It would also be nice to see how exchanges go before the fight : worst british trash talker vs US's worst trash talker.

Yeah OK delusional was a bit strong.
Hopkins may have managed OK up to now, and you make reference to Haye being heavier and punch harder. If it were those things alone I agree BHop has skills to overcome those, but I think Haye has equal speed, decent boxing skills and improving maturity and ring knowledge. Certainly even if Haye were at Cruiser Hopkins would be a big underdog in my book, even with Haye's draining problems and definitely suspect stamina. I think his stamina is more of an issue than his chin - I don't see what Hopkins has to trouble Haye even if he lands.
I reckon Hopkins of five years ago against Haye at Cruiser is a great fight. Hopkins in his mid-40s against Haye at HW to me just feels ridiculous. That's not a criticism of Hopkins, I think his ATG status is assured and he's one of the few current boxers who could stake a claim for that, but it'd just be way too much to ask IMO.

If such a fight ever took place, which it wont, Haye would knock Hopkins out within a few rounds. Hopkins has a great chin and is one of the best defensive fighters of all time, but he had never been hit by someone carrying the power, speed and weight of someone like Haye.
A complete mismatch.
Hopkins v Jones will be an exhibition match, much like Calzaghe v Jones. An insult to the sport and an indication of the crap we as fans are often served up.

Also I would be the 1st one surprised if Haye landed anything clean on Hopkins.

people are absolute nuts . to think that hopkins would take this fight would be farcical and dagerous .
id be worried for hopkins health if he attempted to go in with haye , would be a ko the first descent punch that haye landed , and that would be the best scenario for hopkins .
if bhop took some sustained heavy blows but stayed on his feet , i would go as far as saying hopkins would envy ali's health , hed end up more like mcclelland or watson .

Yup, I guess that's what most people thought when Hopkins moved up 2 weight classes to challenge the hard punching much bigger antonio Tarver...we all know the rest of the story.

haye apparnetly has no interest in this fight. what is up with the sad boys who cannot let it go? i know ppl get sentimental about older fighters and it gives them great pleasure to see them have one last go at a big prize. but if you were WBA heavyweight champ would you fight hopkins (coming off a light heavyweihgt vs middleweight mismatch/hugfest) or a major belt holder like one of the K2 brothers?
let's not forget WBA contenders that must be dealt with, from mandatory ruiz to the chagaev-meehan WBA eliminator.
FFS hopkins was outworked by, and couldn't get his shots off, and was awfully negative vs - jermain taylor. let's have a reality check, eh?

If Hopkins wants this its because he thinks he can exploit Hayes low guard, wide punches and lack or workrate to edge out a decision and become a HW CHamp. I'm not sure he can do it mainly because he looked slower last time out and will have slipped further, Haye has good speed and maybe faster and there is a big size disparity
