That's good thinking, Teddy. Would be a natural super-fight.

But his hands are f*cked and his punch resistance is gone. Stay away, Joe.

Interesting what Calzaghe said about his promotional work - what is the status of this, i.e. what fighters has he got and when is his next promo?

exactly the same stuff that calzaghe said on talksport on feb 2 nd. i was most surprised by the fact that he is hanging up his promoters licence.

sounds a bit pathetic, really.

no doubt the saga will go on, after froch-kessler; kessler being the man that joe unified 168 against.

re losing. defeat can actually make a fighter more interesting and can improve him. haye, khan, benn, etc. it might have made joe make some bolder choices, earlier. this obsession with the mythical "0" makes me glad he's not going to promote, as we have enough of that as it is.

I bet Froch's mum agrees with Joe on this headline :D

Seems strange how the last time out he was wishing Froch all the best in the Super Six :-

"In terms of who I want and expect to win, that’s tricky." said Calzaghe.

"The best thing for British boxing would be a Carl Froch win, I am sick of him talking about me and don’t want to put him down anymore, he’s got a lot of heart, is a big-hitter and deserves great credit for his career."

He’s very vulnerable as he doesn’t really defend too much, but I expect him to beat Andre Dirrell on Saturday and to go fairly well in this. I wish him the best of luck, but if a year of inactivity hasn’t affected Mikkel Kessler too badly, he’s head and shoulders the best fighter in the tournament. I don’t fancy Froch’s chances if he faces Kessler."

"But I wish him well anyway. " said Calzaghe

Q: Why didn't Calzaghe shut this 'spoilt, little, bloody bitch' up when he was still fighting instead of fighting a decrepid RJJ?

A: "It’s a big difference between 47-0 and 46-1. If I did lose, that one loss would destroy everything I’ve done; I’d never forgive myself."

When Calzaghe fought Jones, Froch had not even fought Pascal. Despite the ridiculous £5m offer from Hennessy (does that seem likely seeing as how his TV has gone), the money wasn't there. Jones came with a $5m guarantee.

Fear of defeat motivates many great fighters when they are in tough fights. It's hardly a bad thing.

No way will calzaghe risk his unbeaten record. No way. It's an absolute obession with Calzaghe, and one of the reasons I think he took so few risks for the majority of his career. He doesn't seem to realise that a loss here or there and much better level of opponent would have done just as much for his legacy, if not more.

I reckon he could probably still deal with Froch, after seeing how much trouble he had with Dirrell, I think Joe's speed would be way too much.

The thought of being main event on Primetime! is probably wetting Calzaghe's appetite

Joe won't come back.

As for Froch, he would never stand a chance against Calzaghe. I have said before on here, wait till Kessler splosh's him and the conversations will end that night.

rarely do things end up so cut and dried. for all we know froch migth beat kessler and debates may go on and on.

an what if froch wins super 6? it will be strange. the same ppl who say "calzaghe will always be too fast for froch", might also be saying "froch is the better risk-taker and beat the better names."

Agreed that's the great thing about boxing - sure we can speculate all we like but until two fighters actually meet in the ring we'll never know for sure what the outcome would be. I learnt a long time not to make bold, brash predictions about one fighter dominating another when both have proven themselves at the highest level. A good recent example would be Mosley-Margarito.

old news.

calzaghe was and is better than froch.

you've only gotta watch froch's last fight for that evidence.

no way would calzaghe have been standing off like froch did nearly all night. :>

Exactly, Calzaghe coming back and fighting a guy that wins a tournament as tough as this one? Would be totally out of character.
The only way he comes back is for a big offer to fight a Roy Jones type again.

By the time this tournament is over Calzaghe will be what? 38? 39? I'd be staggered if he came back to face the overall winner.

But who can really say of any of the guys who have fought in the super6 are really that good? .. Apart from Ward - the rest have been a pretty bad example of the `tallent` in the s-middle division.

Froch has looked crude and basic
Abraham looks lazy and too economical
Dirrel too nervous and insecure
Kessler .. over-rated .. but then again I always thought he was..
Taylor .. he`s out.
Ward ... it was kessler he beat after all.

Even the Calzaghe with the bad hands and who seems vulnerable early on would start a massive favourite over any of these. I`d go as far as saying he`d make Froch and Abraham look silly for the full 12rnds.

I`m surprised and a little disapointed Calzaghe has bad mouthed Froch .. but then again maybe he is just keeping his name in the mix of s-middle just incase his court case doesn`t go his way and he needs to top up his pension.

He's more or less said several times that he would come back for silly money, so lets say Froch takes down the touney in some style, becomes a much bigger name in the states and there was $10 000 000 on the table for Joe, i think he'd be back in a heart beat. How many fighters actually stay retired.

You can't make Calzaghe a massive favorite over all these guys and say Kessler is overrated and always was. Calzaghe had a really tough fight with Kessler and even admits to it being his hardest fight.

Maybe I should watch the fight again then .. Calzaghe won it clearly from what I remember ..

Maybe not as clearly as Ward beat kessler .. but was that kessler anywhere near the Kessler Calzaghe fought? the time out has diminished kessler noticeably

He did win clearly but for the first half of the fight it was very close and Kessler was hurting Joe. When Joe started moving and boxing in the second half he picked Kessler apart and won clearly in the end.

Joe when he retired would have beat anyone in the super six and I never thought he should retire, I wanted that last fight v Froch in Cardiff. However he has retired and he should stay retired, no matter who wins the super six.

definitely. and even if they did fight, it could have been a case of "froch was too young", or "calzaghe was too old," etc etc

i don't think any "silly money" is going to be there for joe...ever.

i could have seen lewis getting a big payday for a vitali rematch, but lewis had been earning some very big purses given that he was heavyweight champ; and ppl were itching to see a rematch (or itching to see lewsi get beaten).

while joe drew some very impressive crowds in for instance the lacy and kessler fights, the viewing figures in america were not so impressive, when joe finally "came out"; and his one PPV fight was hardly a blockbuster.

IMO this super 6, in which the best fighters all get round to fighting each other, could be seen as a reaction against the calzaghe-style gaudy, slightly padded, clean sheets record-building - in favour of meaningful fights one after another.
