Where the hell has Ricky Hatton gone?

Whats happening with Ricky's next opponent. He said he would announce a trainer and an opponent after he got back of holiday and that was weeks ago.
And I must be the only one that does not want to see him face Marquez. I want to see him fight Bradley.

He'd have trouble knocking out Bradley from Eastenders these days!

I think Timothy Bradley would knock Hatton out. That would be horrible for him. Against Marquez he'd have a much better chance. I'd imagine it would be at 147 lbs.

Tim Bradley would make a terrible mess of Hatton at this stage. Marquez is a serious danger if he's not too old to put up another performance like he did against Diaz.
Morales is making his comeback shortly. That would be much more suitable.

he needs a test the waters fight.
nate campbell, ricardo torres, marcos maidana, victor ortiz.
someone like that.
then he can look for a marquez or a bradley. ;;-)

Hitman, are you on drugs? Maidana = a 'test the waters' fight
Maidana is a hungry wrecking machine, albeit an unrefined one, and is the last kind of fight Hatton needs as the initial part of any comeback. Talk about maximum risk versus minimum reward.
Even Ortiz would be a very dangerous fight to take given Hatton's recent performances and current condition.

Well it all depends on Ortiz's mentality - personally I think he is finished. Shown his heart can be broken. However, if he can pick himself up then I think he is a more dangerous task that Maidana.... I think people are forgetting the amount of trouble Maidana was in - Ortiz fought the wrong fight, that could be experience, and was very close to stopping him.
I think an 80% of the old Ricky would wipe the floor with Maidana........ but - as a testing waters fight it is a rediculous suggestion.

And that's exactly my point Stu - I agree with everything else you've said.

Ortiz would knock Hatton out before his heart needed to be questioned. He's a big puncher, and a very good boxer.

maidana is a guy that couldn't beat kotelnik.
hatton would walk all over kotelnik even now.

Bradley beats Hatton everday of the week now. He has improved so much, every fight I see he is visibly getting better. He may not have 1-punch KO power but has so many other talents. I would go with Bradley late over Hatton. I think Nate Campbell is a great shout for his next opponant, that would be a good test to see if he still has anyhing left.

I think people write off hatton prematurely. Hatton was beaten by the two greatest welterweights that have ever been involved in the sport not a young gun or second rate champion, bradley (not saying he is the later) hasnt got the power to take hatton out and if the same hatton that fought malignaggi turns up then i would expect him to break bradley. I think we will get the JMM fight at some point and i honestly think there will be a re match with PBF IF he looses to pac - just for the money and a farewell fight for both fighters.

Ortiz finished? He is only 23! There are many fighters who "quit", their steel is questioned and yet they come back to prove the doubters wrong. Robert Guerrero and Vitali Klitschko come to mind. Ortiz is a smart fighter but inexperience got to him, as you say he fought the wrong fight and got involved in a fight that suited Maidana down to the ground. When he stuck to his boxing the fight was all his and I'm sure he was winning the fight quite handily when he did. I recently seen Ortiz fight Alatorre albeit what looked like a blown up lightweight but he was thinking more, taking his time and boxing Alatorre. I even think he carried him to get the rounds in. Ortiz will definitely learn from the Maidana fight and in my opinion he is far from finished. There is talk of him fighting Nate Campbell next, although I would be more inclined to give him a couple more bouts before putting him in with a name.

What sort of response is that?! Everyone knows that styles make fights so talking about Hatton walking over Kotelnik is just obscuring the fact that you suggested that Hatton, coming off a bad knockout defeat, should face an interim world champ with 26 KOs in 27 wins as a 'test the waters' fight. Utter madness.

Can't see Rick fighting again myself.
The competition at 140 is too solid now - and taking a year out and not ticking over will make it extremely difficult to come back in any sort of elite condition needed to have a chance with these younger legs out there.
Whilst a fight with the Alexander vs Urango winner was muted, a southpaw like Alexander would tee of on the Ricky we would perhaps see in a comeback.
As a fan i'd love to say he'd come back and clean up 140 but as a realist i sadly can't see it.
If he does come back I imagine it will be a Steve Forbes type, simply for a final British hurrah. If he looks sensational then he may have a crack I imagine, but that's doubtful.

As I keep stating I think Hatton has done fabulously well for himself and British Boxing - however I disagree with your statement that people are writing him off prematurely!!! - I think Hatton is finished and I dont think he will ever cut it again at genuine world level - if he fights at that level it will be him being used for "cannon fodder" for the upcoming world champions who are about to become a "name" just like he was - people might not like me stating that but hey thats how boxing works.
During the KT fight naturally he got hit a lot - but he came through deservedly so and then went onto really make a name for himself - but in every single one of those fights since the KT fight Hatton was getting hit more and more when in his peak it would have been a lot more difficult - I acknowledge before anyone says it he was fighting higher class opposition - however to counter that a fighter of Hatton's style is always going to get hit a lot and thus the longevity of his career was always going to be a tadge shorter than others who are more evasive.
I honestly believe Ricky Hatton should not have the stupidity to ever step in the ring again to fight - he should bask in the glory of a wonderful career - and people should always remember he did brilliantly for the sport in this country - it would be one massive mistake in my view if stubborness takes over and he goes into a fight just wanting to prove people wrong - Hatton has nothing to prove - he should simply leave the fighting to others now - he has had his day.

perfect succinct post spud, its a dangerous game and hattons family should be protecting him from taking anymore punishment, not encouraging him to further swell the already bulging families vault in the bank of england !!

maidana wouldn't be a first choice opponent.
he'd probably be 3rd or 4th on the list you'd go for.
i think someone like nate campbell would do.
not too dangerous but a decent measuring stick of where he's at.
kotelnik is another name they could go for.

Maidana wouldn't even make the top 10 of first-choice comeback opponents. The other two you mention are far more sensible however.

Hatton knows that the days where he can fight bums are gone. If he comes back and fights anyone slightly below par, it will shatter his reputation. He should fight Alexander, Bradley or Khan.
