Happy Thirty Ninth Anniversary

Hey guys, today is the 39th anniversary of one of the most important athletic events of the 20th century.
The night when two undefeated heavyweight champions met at a time when both men were closest to their peaks in what would easily be the most important fight of their careers. Their seminal moment, if you will.
The one night when the whole world was watching.
And, oh yes, before I forget, the night that Smokin' Joe Frazier knocked Muhammad Ali on his butt and emerged as undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.
Guys, let's all smoke the peace pipe today in observance of this moment.
Or, in possibly some very isolated cases, at least the crack pipe.
I am reposting it for yancey since a most disagreeeable and contemptible poster's aberrant behavior resulted in the original one being locked.

The defining fight of Ali's career.
He couldn't defend himself against Joe Frazier's left hook
and he couldn't punch hard enouigh to keep Frazier off him.

Too bad they fought again and again and Joe lost by wider and wider margins.
I see you are intent on getting another thread locked.
LOL

Dear Moderator.
Please don't lock this thread. As the late Supreme Court Justice, Louis Brandeis, said "sunlight is the best disinfectant".
And a certain poster's hate speech is badly in need of disinfectant.

In response to Granberry's thread whereby he stated that Frazier's career is overlooked.....I don't think it is.
The average man on the street isn't familiar with too many names from the world of boxing....but everyone knows Joe Frazier.
Boxing fans know and recognise his accomplishments and rank him as an all time great, which is about the same level of respect that MOST top fighters get from the eyes of the contemporary sports fan, especially for fighters pre-1990.
Not many non-boxing fans will know about Alexis Arguello, Ruben Olivares, Salvador Sanchez, Emile Griffith, Ezzard Charles.....the list goes on and on, increasingly so the further back in history you go.
Frazier's name is known, rated and respected in boxing circles, which is about all you can expect today. Some names will always stand out and be well known by non-boxing fans (Ali, SRL etc) but there aren't that many.
I think Frazier's place in boxing history is safe.

Had Joe won the rubber match you wouldn't have to dwell on his singular moment of glory like a eighy year old woman dwells on her first kiss.

If not for his epic trilogy with Muhammad Ali his career might be defined by more inglorious encounters.

If Frazier hadn't defeated Ali thoroughly and knocked him flat on his back,
the Ali shills would not have to try obsessively to focus attention away from that fight onto a fight years later when both fighters were far downhill in their careers.
Here both got into the ring as undefeated fighters, and Ali left the ring a beaten fighter.
Nothing the walking army of Ali salesman can do can change that, however ovbiously and awkwardly they try.

Nothing can change the fact that Joe Frazier was the only fighter unable to answer the bell in the trilogy. Nothing can change the fact that Muhammad Ali was robbed of his best years as an athlete by an unjust governemt and equally unjust boxing commissions and that all his susequent opponents including Joe Frazier were beneficiaries of that action . And nothing can change the fact that Muhammad Ali and I are your better in every way imaginable.
Now, go run to whomever you run to have this thread locked to spare you from further pain, humiliation, and embarrassment.
