In The Mail and The Sun. Seems he started light training and thought better of it.

Wise choice if its not there.

Im relieved hes not fighting (at world class again).

hopefully this is true. He could do serious damage to himself if he tries to boil down to 10stone again.Even a moderate opponent would be bad for hatton

If Ricky is having any doubts or lacking the motivation to get back into fighting shape, then he should call it a day because you need to be sure in a sport such as Boxing!

What's the latest? ANyone got any updates?

Will Hatton have to fight to secure another sky contract for his promotional stable?

It all depends what you your regard as "great" - my personal opinion is that Ricky Hatton is/was a great fighter for British Boxing without any doubt.

I make that statement in the context - what he has done for the sport in this country - and whilst the real "anoraks" of the sport will argue this and that about his skills - he achieved a tremendous amount with regards the belts he won - I know some will state the belts are meaningless - but how many fighters in this country have fought at the very top - how many fighters in this country have actually fought the pound for pound best fighters in the world.

I realise its a "can of worms" where you place Ricky Hatton in terms of greatness if that is the correct word - but to be honest I cannot name another boxer who had literally thousands of fans travelling to the other side of the world to watch him - whilst millions tuned in on the TV and radio and with regards to his ring expoits - there is another area where few can match him.

i think popular is the word you're looking for as opposed to great.

think of the spice girls with ricky as fatty spice!

Ricky is an all time British great, however you look at it.P4P(in Britain) best?,no,most popular, yes, but definately in the shake up,based on achievement, not popularity

He deserves to be considered up there. Compare his best 3 wins with Calzaghe's
Tsyzu, Malignaggi and Castillo v Lacy, Hopkins and Kessler
I don't think there's much between the two there.

Yeah I remembered reading that Hatton went back into training on February... As it happens, I'm a little surprised that he hasn't started naming potnetial opponents by now...

I guess that this is a sign that Hatton may be finished...
It's probably for the best. But I would have loved to see Hatton vs Cotto. :(
frankwarrenfan wrote:i think popular is the word you're looking for as opposed to great.
Well, Hatton's vast popularity doesn't come in to the discussion of his ability... And he's a great fighter...

A career that charts two divisions... A unified double world champion... A 2 time world champion and a multi-weight world champion...

Loses only to Mayweather and Pacquaio... Hardly bad.

I'm lost ! He is, he isn't, he is, it's been going on for ages now. I know its a big decision but he should have come to it by now.

An earlier point about "does he need to box on for a new Sky contract ?" is a very good point that I hadnt thought of. I think David Haye had a simular situation with Satanta (before they went to the wall).

It's fantastic that Ricky drew so many fans. AND that they travelled. But as for him being a great ? An earlier poster had it right, there is a difference between "popular" and "great", the two only rarely have anything to do with eachother (what is the best SELLING newspaper in the country ? The Sun. What is the BEST newspaper in the country ?...). Christ, Robbie Williams played to more people than Frank Sinatra ever did but he's still just a fat northener (Robbie Williams that is :-))

Ricky does not need to fight to secure dates for Hatton Promotions.
That is a myth.
