Carlos versus Marvin a different take...

Conveniently Carlos and Marvin had the same number of championship fights. Here’s a chance to compare (in order) of how they match up at the time they fought the great champions. Let me know your thoughts on 15 rounders…
Benvenuti v Antuofermo - Benvenuti
Benvenuti v Minter – Minter
Griffith v Obelmejias - Griffith
Moyer v Antuofermo - Antuofermo
Bouttier v Hamsho - Hamsho
Bogs v Lee - Bogs
Briscoe v Obelmejias - Briscoe
Griffith v Sibson - Griffith
Bouttier v Scypion - Scypion (close)
Napoles v Duran - Napoles
Mundine v Roldan - Roldan
Licata v Hamsho – Hamsho
Tonna v Hearns – Hearns
Valdez v Mugabi - Valdez
Valdez v Leonard – Valdez
Monzon takes it 8-7

And he would eek out a win over Marvin as well IMHO. But there are some here who will not agree with your posted assessment of degree of talent per fight.

How about trying it this way with Carlos and Marvin at there best in each fight.
CARLOS MONZON
vs V Antuofermo W15 very close
vs A Minter WTKO 8 on cuts. No major cuts it's a W15 by 3 to 5 pts
vs F Obelmejias WKO 12
vs V Antuofermo WTKO 7
vs M Hamsho W15 very wide
vs W Lee WKO 3
vs F Obelmejias WKO 10
vs T Sibson WKO 11
vs W Scypion WKO 10
vs R Duran W15 wide. Also possible of late corner retirement by Duran
vs JD Roldan W12 by 3-4pts
vs M Hamsho WTKO 13
vs T Hearns WSD12
vs J Mugabi W12 very close
vs SR Leonard WSD 12
I'll post Hagler's results later

Just about agree with the original picks, except Duran beats Napoles

Is this who would win between the two or who were the better fighters/opponents? (not always the same thing)

Monzon takes it 8-7
I agree with everything but Minter over Benvenutti and I'm not really sure about napoles/Duran. Valdez/Mugabi would be incredible.

Nino is the better fighter but was he a little bit worn out by the 2nd fight? If not he beats Minter. I just thought he had lost enough for Alan to win.
Napoles - Duran is hard. Napoles was fitter and fresher and I can imagine him winning, but it's another close one.

Ah ha! I see what you are saying - I thought you were matching them prime v. prime! In that case, my only disagreement is in regard to Bouttier, whom I guess I think was a tad bit better than you do, Ez.

Good stuff and interesting idea. I think Benvenuti, even at the end of his career, would have had enough to barely get by Minter, and I would have gone with Bouttier over Scypion. But I can't quibble with much here.
Would have paid huge money to see Napoles-Duran and Valdez-Leonard. Valdez-Mugabi, Mundine-Roldan and Briscoe-Obelmejias would have been absolute wars

In the end I just knew a bit more about Scypion than Bouttier. I'm always open to correction.

There a few I disagree with, (I'm sure you can guess a couple) but most of them are on the money. Their competition was relatively close, I would give the edge to Monzon. To me, considering that Monzon won all of his title fights and Hagler had a loss and a draw are significant factors when rating who was better Monzon or Hagler.
To be fair to Hagler, his competition prior to winning the title was better than Monzon's was prior to winning the title.

Fair enough conclusions...
Look, I'm not Leonard bashing. He deservedly beat Hagler but IMO that version of Valdez was better than that version of Hagler. AND it's mighty hard to rate Sugar Ray at 160.
