Not sure whether I am right on the following :TU:

A lot of the African opponents and the Eastern Block fighters end up with a ridiculous small amount of money because sometimes either the manager or Agent gets paid the money - they take their cut - the boxer ends up with pittance.

Tyson got $25,000,000 for McNeeley. What makes it even more amazing is that Tyson had been inactive for four years & it was his rfirst fight on the comeback trail! Name another fighter who would have received that sort of purse after four years out?

There cannot be many, if any at all!

exactly mate, thats why the african fighters are easy pickings for british promotors/matchmakers. they are cheap, usually look the part physically, have 'manipulated' records... and they fall over easy !!

I heard Glen Johnson only got $12,000 for winning an IBF eliminator against a top ten fighter in Yusaf Mack. For a fighter of that level that is definitely a hideous purse.

I have heard many a trainer/manager from foreign shores say though they love coming over here as the money is normally a lot better than the states etc etc.

Didn't Steve Robinson "just" get his contractual amount for a WBO mandatory defence when facing Naz in a superfight?

I think it was £250k gross.

Naz had never even fought at the weight but was made no1 by the WBO, who threatened to strip Robinson if he didn't go through with the fight.

Naz, of course, got way more than the champ for the fight.

I read that Tim Witherspoon was due to be paid over a Million for fighting Bruno, but by the time everyone had dipped in he was left with less than 90k, i think he got most of it back in court though. :TU:

And people say all the money is the NFL or NBA!

Well thats the argument put forward by US fight fans trying to explain why they haven't had a great Heavyweight since Holyfield.

Imagine a prime Tyson fighting today? Would earn double what Beckham and Tiger Woods earn a year combined.

The Heavyweight Championship is still potentially the richest prize in sport.

I wouldnt say they are cheap The ones i have had over here have cost about £3K for 6x3 min But what the boxer sees out of that I dont know
He should see more than half at the least If he isnt getting that Then thats down to the agent not the promoter
As promoter I just give the money to the agent

Is there no regulation to protect boxers from exploitation from promoters?

I think the boxer can report it to The Board of Control not sure about foriegn boxers though dont think they can
But the problem is If the agent and matchmaker tells the promoter its 3k say for a 6 rounder and they only offer the boxer say £500 an the boxer accepts I,m not sure what can be done
I think there should be something in place where The promoter tells the boxer exactly what he has paid them
Then the boxer could take it up with the agent

If the prime Tyson was around today, his earnings, sponsorships, etc, etc, would be off the wall! Remember, back in the day, Tyson did commercials for Budweiser, Japanese beer, Nintendo, LAPD, NYPD, Pepsi, etc. He was a massive commodity!

If I remember rightly, in 1996, he was the highest paid sportsman, earning something in the region of $100,000,000 or near that figure anyway. That was just his earning's & does not take into consideration any other deals!
