question

after the 2nd fight tonight, the question was obviously raised as to why the ref stopped that fight seeing though bahram was still trying to throw punches even though he was hurt. but the other question, and main point of this thread, was if he had have gone down to the ground or a knee would he not be issued a count?? and therefore get his composure and breath back. by being issued a count he would have negotiated the shit TKO call, but would it have been frowned upon in the boxing community, or legal??? sorry bout the many questions

I hear ya but I dont think it was in his mind set to take a knee. I saw him rocking on the ropes but he seemed pretty composed, although he took some good shots....was the standing 8 an option ?? Either way it was an early stoppage......I wouldnt be a ref for quids,

Going down on the knee would be penalised by the judges as a knockdown as there would be a count started. In a close contest as was this one, the points difference may have been critical at the end of the fight. But in the heat of battle, everything is moving fast and one has to think and decide what to do next in an instant. To some fighters, going down on one knee is a no-no and a lot of this game is about ticker.

But the way they were mixing it up, the bout was going to end before the final bell.

However, I believe the ref called the fight off too early and should have put on a standing 8 count to assess the situation better to see if the boxer getting the count was still in difficulty and could see out the round.

Kurt was 2 or 3 punches away from licking the canvas. Good stoppage by Malcolm

anton, i do agree, but do u think he was the losing the fight???
my question was weather it was a good idea to take a knee if the thought came into his head. which as a fighter i can very much see y it wouldnt. it was just sumfin me and my housemate spoke about.......

I thought Kurt was far more accurate & was ahead on points.
I'll know tomorrow when I get official results/score tally sheets

Is the standing eight still part of boxing? In World Championship fights I have heard the rule as no standing eight count.

I'm pretty sure they can pick and choose those sort of rules now, same with the three knockdown rule...

But surely your aloud to hit the canvas once before being stopped, Bahram was winning the fight, got caught, didn't hit the ground and gets his first blemish, retarded decision a night ruining decision with all honesty.

It makes the sport look very soft!

Might be soft, but you got to remember the ref could be 2/3 punches away from losing his savings/house etc etc

well if i was a promoter i wouldnt hire either of those guys again. but im not, so yea. i have to agree with dawg. that and the HW decision were both terrible. but that is sport, ALL SPORT. unfortunately a lot of refs are ppl that like the sport, but could never make it. so they have to be SEEN. its their way of making up for not making it. its very sad, but it is wat it is unfortunately.

The promoter doesn't hire them. Control Board appoints officials at a cost.
