Welcome to this room... I hope you will enjoy some of my fathers pictures from the past. Charley was a pro heavyweight from 1948-1959. He was a top contender from 1954-1957. Here are some pictures from his photo albums from throughout the years. Enjoy.

If you want to put an age to my father-he was born Aug. 1928.
He stood 6 foot tall even since the age of 17. He weighed 194 1/4 lbs. for most of his career-including 1954-1957. A staunch supporter of hard training before a fight.

Archie Moore and Charley Norkus promote their fight.

Charley and Archie were very good friends. They would see each other often after their careers ended. Attended many testimonial dinners together and called each every now and then. When Archie visited New York, the two fighters would try to make it a point to get together. Archie said he had a copy of the "Norkus/Moore fight" at home. He kept forgetting to bring it to Charley over the years. To this day, no one sees to know where it is now. I am sure ESPN/Disney must have a copy.

4/19/2012 My good friend, Harold Lederman, has informed me that the gentleman smiling in the forefront of the picture is longtime MSG PR man Irving Rudd.

Update: 4/01/2013- I have learned from Steve Lott in Las Vegas, who now owns Big Fights Inc and entire boxing film library that the Archie Moore vs Charey Norkus fight ,which was televised in 1957, was NOT recorded on film and therefore does not exist in recorded film form.

Look at the size of Dempsey's fist.

Here's a great group shot. I'm guessing about early 1970's.Names on photo.

Awesome photos! Thank you for sharing those. Your father had real skills and was as tough as they come . . the way he came back vs big Charley Powell was incredible, and he gave Ezzard a tough scrap as well.

I doubt you will ever see a promotional tag photo like this again. Back then they were used plenty of times depending of fighters background. Today there would be hell raised and detract from the bouts. Political Correctness. Thought you might like to see this one anyway.

After Charley's two fights with Danny Nardico, he became somewhat of a fan favorite around Miami. He told the press that he was getting married that June 1954 to Margie and that he liked Miami,Fla. so much,that he will honeymoon there. This photo shows The Norkus's with Vicki and Jake LaMotta out on the town in Miami- June 1954.
Margie has dark hair, Vicki has Blonde.
