Dear Pat Sheehan,BIGMARK wrote:i was seeing if there was any coverage on the Haye fight and came across this:

i stopped reading when i got to this:
And to think this guy gets a press pass for a big fightThe champion makes the first defence of his heavyweight crown on April 3 knowing the durable American has never been stopped or dropped in his 54-fight career.
First of all a fighter will not normally get involved in all of the politics - what normally happens for instance at the previous bigger Fight Academy shows - a small group of us will get together - review the number of seats we have at ringside for press - then look at the list and of course nationals and local press take priority - if there is an individual there that is not particularly liked then that individual was discussed with Dennis and at the time Richard Poxon. I normally had the knowledge of who the good internet reporters were and who the p*ss takers were - but even they were given tickets outside of inner ringside and warned that we expected a report up on their site within 24 hours. You will be amazed the amount of applications a promoter can receive from p*ss takers claiming they are from some sort of local paper.BIGMARK wrote:spud have you ever been working on a show when a promoter or fighter refused a member of the press a pass?Spud wrote:It will be hilarious when Mr Sheehan applies for his press pass for this fight to Hayemaker Boxing - I remember Elliott Worsell being particularly daming about him a few years back when Clinton Woods fought Glencoffe Johnson for the first time and Mr Worsell and others had a few words to say about Mr Sheehans good lady being sat next to him in press row!!!.
x2.....moronic, and frighteningrhino222 wrote:i have just read the piece at work today, someone had left 'the sun' lying around in the coffee room. the man is a fekking donkey, how on earth can he expect to get any credit/kudos/respect from anyone in boxing/the media when his mistakes are so so blatant. should we send him the youtube clip of ruiz having his head removed by tua, it is one of the most brutal KO's you will ever see in boxing, certainly not something that you could ever forget!!
You wouldn't expect them to though, would you?DIRT SUGAR wrote:What I will say Sun sport's subs bench didn't pick up the error either.
Errr (as a sub-ed myself) I'd have checked to make sure he'd never been floored at least, yes.Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:You wouldn't expect them to though, would you?DIRT SUGAR wrote:What I will say Sun sport's subs bench didn't pick up the error either.
bloody hell chris, we get so much column space that the least we expect is a bit of accuracy. especially as uncle pat is first in the queue when it comes to the credentials....oh...and one for his bird !! ...REAL_DEAL wrote:I dont see what the big deal is .Pat just hyping the ruiz fight, making him better than hes meant to be. So what if hes misleading ruiz a bit to the general public.
(yes i am trolling)
If Pat got his missus to proof read his articles once in a while he might make fewer fundamental factual errors...rhino222 wrote:bloody hell chris, we get so much column space that the least we expect is a bit of accuracy. especially as uncle pat is first in the queue when it comes to the credentials....oh...and one for his bird !! ...REAL_DEAL wrote:I dont see what the big deal is .Pat just hyping the ruiz fight, making him better than hes meant to be. Really? I wouldn't have thought you would have time to check every statement. Take for example a recent retrospective I published on Corbett v Fitzsimmons. There's no fecking way I'd be checking every bit of that. Or if one of my lads says a Brit has had 10 KOs from 20 wins, I wouldn't have time to go and check every record. You have to trust your writers.DIRT SUGAR wrote:Errr (as a sub-ed myself) I'd have checked to make sure he'd never been floored at least, yes.Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:You wouldn't expect them to though, would you?DIRT SUGAR wrote:What I will say Sun sport's subs bench didn't pick up the error either.
I am a sub too and if the writer is an expert in a given subject, and I don't know about it, then I work on the assumption that the writer has at least got the facts right, because after all that is their speciality, so then I edit for space, clarity, general English, style consistency, and so on. In an ideal world every "fact" would be double-checked, but we don't have that luxury.DIRT SUGAR wrote:Errr (as a sub-ed myself) I'd have checked to make sure he'd never been floored at least, yes.Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:You wouldn't expect them to though, would you?DIRT SUGAR wrote:What I will say Sun sport's subs bench didn't pick up the error either.
This is exactly what I thought, Oliver. You guys (in Britain working on a national paper, certainly) probably have less time than ever I would have thought.oliverfennell wrote:I am a sub too and if the writer is an expert in a given subject, and I don't know about it, then I work on the assumption that the writer has at least got the facts right, because after all that is their speciality, so then I edit for space, clarity, general English, style consistency, and so on. If I didn't know about boxing, and was given a boxing story by a boxing writer to edit, then I'd assume the boxing facts within were correct. I can't blame the subs for this.
he knows enough about boxing to find the arenas and be at the front of the credential queue, oh..and the buffet of course !!Spud wrote:Journalists always have an excuse for their shoddy work!!!![]()
Thats probably the reason why they dont write about boxing often enough - they know f*ck all about the sport!!!
So do we!!!rhino222 wrote:he knows enough about boxing to find the arenas and be at the front of the credential queue, oh..and the buffet of course !!Spud wrote:Journalists always have an excuse for their shoddy work!!!![]()
