The best performances of my early career were against Eric Holland and Denys Cronin.



I think my best ever performance: I fought a German, he was 6-feet-3 and a southpaw and had 35 fights, 35 wins and I fought him in his backyard, he was a world champion in his own right and I put in a performance that was beyond world class and into poetry in motion.



The 'greatest' performances however would be Watson II, in a league of it's own, followed by Benn I and Thompson I.

What do you reckon? I'm thinking more in terms of boxing ability. I quite liked the first six rounds against American mandatory Tony Thornton; hit-and-move and beautiful, quick little flurries with loads of foot movement. Similar to Rocchi fight I suppose, but Thornton was much much busier than Rocchi and a much smaller target. Both Thornton and Rocchi had really good peek-a-boo defences but Eubank got through them. I thought Thornton was better than Rocchi - even sneakier right hand, more mobile etc.

you're the Eubank guy aren't you I seem to recall similar posts from you b4. Are u Eubank? Or a friend or something and where are u taking these quotes from??

It's quite a funny quote in itself.......my best performance was X but my greatest performance was Y but the best I have ever fought was Z lol...........

for what it's worth I loved to watch Eubank and his Autobiography remains the most interesting book I have ever read probably. When people talk about reading a book cover to cover in one go (obviously bullsh*t your ass would be numb)...I read that book over a weekend and loved it.

Thompson 1 (or 2??) was a terrific fight.......whichever it was I am referring to the April/May 1998 fight I remember where I was.

I was too young to witness the Watson fight although having read Watson's itself superb autobiog, I tend to lean toward the fact Eubank was getting outclassed....so big credit must be given to him for turning it round, although if only he hadn't done for Watson's sake unfortunately.

I don't claim to have seen ALL Eubank's fights by any means...and I didn't see it live at the time but the skill of the first few rounds versus Nigel Benn (I) , a man he admitted petrified him, was unbelievable for me. Boxed so well and on the front foot at times against a man who could knock him out at any moment. Despite being taunted and verbally intimidated (or tried to) by Benn in that studio...Eubank came into the ring and did exactly what he said he was going to do............"Your boy's mine, your boy's mine"...............superb.

Don't like to hark on but Eubank in my top 4 favourites hence the essay.

He looked like class against Wharton as well, though his opponent was made-to-order on that occasion.

going to germany to defeat rocchiani stands out too me.

the guy went on to defeat dariuz michelski, who was a great fighter.

has to be watson 2
showed unbelievable heart after touching the canvas in desperation showed an unbelievable will to win obviousley with the sad events that followed it kinda marred the result of the fight but the fight itself showed a world class performance
i also read his autobiography which i agree was one of the best autos ive ever read and actually admired the character of the man i also thought that eubank allways conducted himself well in public and allways come across as a gentleman he behaved and acted like a world champion should do but there were a lot of benn fans around at the time so chris didnt really get the credit he deserved sorry to go off the point back to the boxing definatley watson 2 in my opinion!
its just a shame we never got to see him against any of the top americans to see how good he really was

i think mike mcallum demonstrated on watson what would of happend had he fought the best in the states.

His dismissal of Jarvis was clinical.

His first fight with nigel benn was the best, how many amateur fights did eubank have? any one know?

26 fights, 19 wins and seven losses.

It was very very brief but successful and all in New York, some Golden Gloves success. He was a passing acquintance of Mike Tyson, in his South Bronx days.

1st Benn fight I would say, he would not be denied.

Chilling KO of Jarvis but the display before that wasn't great.

Benn 1 or Rochigianni for me. Wharton was a great display, but the opponent not on Benn or Rochigianni's level.

Eubank was a great 6 round fighter.. he seemed to look great for 6 rounds often then shit for the 2nd half..

Watson 1 was maybe his best 6 round display all things concerned , such as the Brilliant tucked defence of Watson that Eubank got past with 3 or 4 shots on the spin regularly that had never really been done before on MW even one time, by anyone (even Mccallum)..

His best 12 round display (or only 12 round display !!!), was Henry Wharton..

Funniest one was when we was in Liverpool, there was 50 people and a dog!!, no TV, and Chris was fighting a southpaw!!

Eubank dominated Henry in every minute of every round..! And Henry didnt even throw a punch against Benn until the last second of the 5th round (and that dropped Nigel) where as against Eubank he was throwing punches from the opening bell to the last bell.. Nigel in last few rounds of his fight with Wharton was just hanging on the ropes , Eubank was trying to stop him and beating him up.. never thought Wharton was the same fater that , or indeed Eubank for that matter ! Very very good display against a dangerous fighter who was on form that night too..

Definitely. Eubank showed better balance and less mistakes in the Thompson fights, maybe because Thompson was bigger and slower or maybe because Eubank was stronger, less weight-drained than usual. Or both those factors. But he did box dexteriously well in those fights, and in a much more textbook manner.

Also, I can't think of many - if any - past greats who finished their careers on commendable losses like Eubank did.

Chris stated he boxed every minute of every round,because he HAD to.He also named Henry as the hardest man he ever faced in his autobiography.Great performance by Eubank,and im sure the passionate crowd at the G-Mex inspired him as much as it did Henry

I remember Henry Wharton been a massive ticket seller. Could always pack out the arena. A shame some of the title holders around British level can't do the same today. Henry could shift tickets.
