Boxrec - The Site

Hopefully the forum members will take this thread seriously.
In a mad, humble moment I was sat here thinking what a bloody fantastic place boxrec is!!!
Bloody hell the site has people from throughout the world visiting the place - whatever your slant on the sport is - this place caters for it - if you want to get into facts and figures the place has it all here about fighters, fights etc etc - the newly formed articles part of the site - is also fantastic and informative and in my opinion shows no biaise to any particular promoter which I think is quite refereshing.
But the most important thing for me and actually I think its the most popular aspect with regards "Boxrec's British Boxing" is the forum - the moderators actually manage to control mad b*stards like myself in an excellent diplomatic and whats more discreet manner - whilst keeping the most important fundamental aspect of all and thats
freedom of speech - within the limits of the law of course - I will state again we have alsorts of chaps who are very opinionated and want a place to air their views - where else is there where we can voice an opinion on British Boxing and EVERYONE has a chance to have their say.
The massive piece of humble pie I simply have to eat is that the moderators on here have succeeded where I failed miserably and thats run, an organised, extremely fair forum where even if you are in the minority which invariably I am - its a place I thoroughly enjoy coming to and getting the soap box out. I would like to add the following groups of people all use this forum - they keep visiting the place and thus I feel they must enjoy and sometimes cringe at the banter on here -
Promoters
Managers
Fighters - Past & Present
BBBofC members
Journalists
Fans
Lads this is not about myself or any of you other than just to simply - come on this thread to thank John Shep, "Smoggy" (McNeilly), and his writers, and dare I say it them moderators who run this place superbly.
I have written this thread as a chance for me, you and everyone who visits here to show your support to those guys who work so hard behind the scenes making this place tick!!!
So - lets leave the banter to oneside just for this thread and thank those people who count!!!
I will start:
Thank you - Shep, Smoggy McNeilly, The writers and the mods!!!

Stick 'and Irish' in there and you are onto a winner with that post.
Agreed, it's 'the' boxing forum and Boxrec News just adds to an already fantastic setup.

I've been threatened with a shotgun on Boxrec and I can honestly say if I did not visit Boxrec I don't think I would ever have experienced that naked rush. So Bravo for Boxrec.

It's the best website in the world. Not that I'm biased.
John Shep with the help of all the editors and others have created a massive, free resource which has changed following the sport of boxing for ever.
Long may it continue. And well said, Spud, you Geordie bast*rd.

It's a tremendous resource and supplemented by the input of knowledgeable, like-minded others. I heard with interest today that The Times is going to start charging people a minimum cost to read its online paper. I wouldn't pay to read The Times because I could do without it but I certainly couldn't do without Boxrec.
Well done to the owners, the record keepers and all the many contributors, and The Blades.

Someone was speaking to me at the Corner Shop today - he stated could you imagine how rich "Shep" would be if he charged everyone £1 per month to enter the site - remember the boxing records side of things is what it was set up for in the first place and the amount of people around the world who use it!!!

This site is a great place to share views, get up-to-date news and enjoy some good banter, share stories and even help each other out with boxing related issues! I'm a regular visitor and love reading the topics especially the British and Irish part of the forum.
Thanks BoxRec and to all you posters too!

This site was the best boxing website before forums began. Forums have definately added to it though. Its the database that is the invaluable service. Never be bettered.

Whats your agenda?
'Someone' was speaking to you? You mean YOU were talking about boxrec £1.00 a month charge? Not everything is about money.

once a web site isnt free they loose about 90% of their members thats why facebook and myspace dont charge, the money is made from advertising.

good post spud and i can only second your compliments to the guys who keep this place ticking over behind the scenes.
if anyone wife is suffering because of the time any individual spends on here, then, as a kind gesture, id like to offer my services to any wife/girlfriend/grandmother who is going short due to her partners transfixion with the boxrec forum. i would class it as a kind of charity work.
but in all seriousness, long may this forum thrive and continue. what i would say is for people not to take things too seriously.
example..... would carlos tevez be launching lawsuits due to someone calling him 'ugly' on an internet forum........of course he would not, because its all about opinion, and...furthermore...he is ugly.....

Tevez would have been classed as good looking 100,000 years ago. How times change.

Without boxrec I surely would have commited sucide due to the boredom I suffer at work. For that I am eternally grateful!
And in all seriousness there is a wealth of knowledge on this board from training tips, show updates, links to articles to interaction with the boxers themselves which is always great for us fans. Many thanks to all those who keep this forum running!

No agenda at all young man!!! - absolutely not!!
The point about "the charge" thing was concerning the amount of people who use this site - for reference purposes, for matchmaking purposes and purely as a fan - my point was when discussing with the shop keeper - if and that word was a big if - Shep was to charge just a pound a month - he would be a rather rich chap - all it was a point!!!

Whenever some mentions £s on a forum it quickly loses its appeal. Plenty of free forums about and there is areason for that.
