Does a fighters choice of music to enter to make a difference to your mood ?


I.E.

If a fighter comes out to a strong rocky/dance type tune does it make you more excited about them coming in ?


Or does it make no difference to you ?


Also does it register to you if they use a tune more than a couple of times, do you asscociate that tune with that fighter ?

It certainly does make a difference to the atmosphere. "The Best" may have been a bit cheesy but when Eubank made his ring entrance the atmosphere was totally electric!

Similarly, I recall Riddick Bowe entering prior to a world title fight to the sound of "In the Air Tonight" by Genesis. Not an adrenaline rush but it created an air of quiet menace.

As a Sheffield man you've most probably followed the career of Naseem Hamed (among others, Johnny Nelson, Ryan Rhodes etc). Hamed made good use of his entrance music to emphasise his "coolness". His ring entrance prior to knocking out Sergio Liendo in Glasgow was brilliant to watch.

Must say though, Vitali Klitschko's entrance prior to the Lewis fight to the strains of "Hotel California" was shit. It's a melancholy song and not one to get the blood pulsing. Bad choice, Vitali.

Remember Sugarboy Malinga's ringwalk for the Robin Reid fight? Everything about that was pure class, and the same can be said for the man himself.

I personally think a fighter should stick to a regular theme song (kind of like the WWF wrestlers). It helps get the atmosphere pumping and also the familarisation is a good selling point. In a way a regular entrance song is similar to have a funny haircut.

Is it coincidence that two of the biggest ticket sellers in the UK of the last ten years consistently used the same tune (Ricky Hatton - Blue Moon, Chris Eubank - The Best).

On a side issue, does Glenn Cateley still come out to his self-penned track, which he also sings?

Personally, I think they should pick a tune and stick with it. Making it their signature tune. Of course it can't be too contemporary, otherwise it will sound old after a year or so.

I remember Audley had Tim Westwood as a Live MC introducing him for one of is early fights. Most of the crowd + watching fans didn't recognize it was Westwood, and certainly didn't appreciate his unique style of speaking.
