The US boxing promoter Don King is suing the boxer Lennox Lewis, US-based boxing promotion company Lion Promotions, and Judd Burstein, Lewis's and Lion's New York lawyer, for libel in England over articles on two UK-based boxing websites which labelled him an anti-semite.
The claim, issued in the high court in London last week and served this week in New York, seeks "unlimited" damages, costs, and an injunction restraining the three defendants from repeating the comments. It is the latest in a string of website libel claims launched in recent years.

A statement issued on Mr King's behalf said he was "highly offended" by the "entirely untrue" comments by Mr Burstein in an interview on boxingtalk.com website, and an article on fightnews.com.

Mr Burstein is acting for Mr Lewis and Lion in a $385m (£255m) US lawsuit brought by them against Mr King for allegedly persuading Mike Tyson not to enter into a contract to fight Mr Lewis.

Mr Burstein made his allegations of anti-semitism after Mr King called him "a shyster lawyer".

Mr King's solicitor, Trevor Asserson, said: "According to the dictionary, 'shyster' has no Jewish connotation." He said Mr King was particularly hurt by the accusation since he had dedicated much time and money to the cause of racial harmony.

Mr King said: "I have worked against racism and bigotry all my life. To be called an anti-semite is deeply hurtful to me. I am taking these allegations both personally and seriously."

A statement issued on Mr King's behalf said he had for many years been closely associated with Jewish organisations and individuals in the UK and US, had raised more than $1m for a Jewish school for special needs children in the UK and donated $100,000 to the school, and had raised more than $1m for Lubavitch, the hassidic sect of orthodox Jews in New York.

I hope King wipes the floor with them.

If Boxing needs cleaning up, the first thing to do is to rid it of Lennox Lewis.

IMO Lewis is an arrogant, unsporting, spoilt, overhyped, overrated brat who shows no grace in victory or defeat, and who resorts to legal action to force washed up fighters to face him.

He is a phoney and a fraud and will go down as the most overrated and unpopular HW champion in history.

He should be ashamed of himself and I hope KIng cleans him out.

It would be nothing less than Lewis deserves.

I had to laugh at the claim that King has dedicated much time and money to the cause of racial harmony. No one plays the race card better than him.
Incidentally, maybe Lennox ought to take a leaf out of King's book and carry a briefcase full of cash around with him. King always has one at hand in case he bumps into a fighter suing him. He then opens the case, containing probably 50,000 dollars, and offers it to the fighter in return for the fighter dropping his lawsuit which could net him millions.
The promoter knows the offer of an open briefcase loaded with dollars is a sight too good for most people to refuse.

Don King a perfect upstanding citizen, a man the world respects.
If you want to clean up boxing, I think King should be your priority.

No offence meant man but you cant compare Toney to Lewis. Yeah Toney talks trash but thats BEFORE fights, he is always humble and respectful to his opponents afterwards. His trash talking is just psychological warfare, he is the master of getting under an opponents skin. Lewis on the other hand is just plan arrogant, "Im the best, lay the others to rest"
Even after Vitali gave him a hell of a fight he refused to give him any credit whatsoever.

I think he was just pissed off with Larry Merchant who aggravated him in the post-fight interview (as he does with all of the best fighters).
