Calzaghe was and is still a great boxer and athlete.

Tell you what.....take him out the equation and look back at the last 15 years of the boxing landscape...would it have been as good?? No.

The man annoys me a little bit to be honest and with talk of charging people for his autograph he has certainly now slipped out my favourite handful of boxers, and he does come across as a bit big headed and a bit boring at times if I dare say it. Not to mention there's probably some credence to the rumours he ducked out of certain fighters, but.........you can take all of that........roll it up nice and tight and put it where the sun don't shine.

In a hard game of going running 10 miles by yourself regularly when youdon't want to, sweating your knackers off, getting punched in your face, the man did it, and looked good doing it and gave good value.

So really who gives a f*ck what he does with his life now??? He's earned the right to do what the f*ck he wants.

I am proud to say I tipped Joe to spank Lacy when all around were saying he was going to get his head taken off. I actually thought the follow up fight against Bika was a quality effort cos Bika was a big, mean, tough, fit, dirty b*stard of a fighter, Richie Woodhall was no mug either.....he beat a prime Kessler out of the fight, I for one am glad I got the chance to admire the skills.

And another thing.........Prime Calzaghe whups prime Carl Froch all day long. In fact if they fought this year Calzaghe would whup Froch now. And when Froch struggles like hell and gets banged around the ring by Kessler, he won't be looking so clever then, given Kessler is now a beaten fighter and wasn't when Joe got him.

Yeah, the Hatton's used to add at least 30 per cent!

And as for charging for an autograph, I have never ever see him do that. It might have been at one of those autograph conventions where celebs are paid to go along but people pay to have pics and authographs. In which case, everyone you could mention has done those.

Really good post, I nodded all the way through I would say though that I'm suprised how much hate there seems to be for him here. I'm certainly not his no 1 fan but regarding the autographs, its common practice for sportsmen these days simply because of the resale (ebay) factor. Ask him for a pic and judge him on how he responds to that.

The Hatton's have used an exchange rate of a Dollar to the Pound,before the recession,to sell tickets to some of Ricky's biggest fights.Not blaming Rick,but he is surrounded by some manipulative people

I'm not really one for autographs too much, but I asked him to sign a poster and programme for the Hopkins fight and he did it no problem.

Thomas Hauser claimed that the Hattons sold tickets for a 30 per cent mark up to fans.
Others will have been put on ebay by members of the Hatton team to ensure they would not lose out from others doing a mark-up.

If a dollar to the pound exchange rate was being charged before the recession, as said above, that's about a 100 per cent mark up.

Yep, think Calzaghe would have beaten Froch pretty easy. Dirrell showed up Carl's failings pretty clearly, and had he made a bit more effort offensively would gave gotten the decision.

I think Carl would barely have laid a glove on Joe, just way too slow and one paced.

isn't it just possible, that if dirrell had done more, dirrell might have been more open to froch's shots? in fact, wasn't that why he tried every trick - running, falling over repeatedly, holding - to not get hit? dirrell was very good vs a short fighter, abraham, but vs a tall fighter, froch, who could reach him, he was terrible.

i live by newbridge and know for a fact that joe is very accomodating when it comes to signing stuff,hes always got time for young people.
silly thing hes done lately but shouldnt be judged solely on that

Froch shouldn't really speak about Calzaghe, He has about 1/10th the Talent of the Welshman.
Calzaghe would have easily accounted for Froch, at any stage of his career, He could come bak now and it would be an easy payday .

I think it's possibly in Dirrell's nature to spoil, but he landed by far the hardest shot of the night against Froch.

If Dirrell was terrible, then Carl was just as terrible he barely laid a glove on Dirrell all night, and nothing of any substance.

I admit Dirrell is awful to watch, I'm hardly a fan, but he's very talented, and has shown up the limitations of the Europeans in the tournament thus far.
