apologies for my ignorance but i dont know who his , any relation to Joe Egan ?

Don't think he wants to turn pro. He was offered a deal after the Olympics but turned it down because he didn't want the spotlight of being a pro. He is 28/29 now so if he is to turn pro he needs to do it asap but I can't see it. Got robbed blind in the Olympic final.

Irish lightheavy won silver in Olympics. never heard owt about him turning over.

Robbed he was, a disgraceful decision.

I remember how impressed I was with this guy.... memory may be a little hazy but didnt he manage to get to the semi's without dropping a point?? certainly no more than a couple. I waited, assuming he would turn pro, but then nothing.

He was so impressive in Beijing. Ive never seen someone so gracious following such a blatant robbery. Hope he does well whatever he does, shame we probably won't see him as a pro though :(

aye, his style was so well-suited to the ams you have to wonder how well he'd do turning over as a 29 year old pro

Yea he only dropped a few points on route to the final. Gave Tony Jeffries a good lesson in the semis as well as CP pointed out.

Brilliant fighter is Kenny.. I really rate him, i remember being away with him and him saying he was never interested in the pro game!! :( I think he's that good a fighter he'd do well in either am or a pro ring!! He was robbed in the olympic final he really was!! i rate him as one of the greatest irish am's EVER!! I really mean that too!!

Kenny is a top guy but wont turn pro imo, he is in the high performance team and getting plenty a dough and sponsorship as an am so limited incentive - also his style doesnt suit the pro game.

Young buck from Belfast called McCarthy coming up hot on his heels and I'd say has a fair chance of getting the place in the Olympic qualifiers for London.

BIG claim. I'd say Wayne McCullough, Mick Dowling, Damaen Kelly, Sock Byrne,v Jim McCourt Michael Carruth and Charlie Nash might have a peep to say about that wan!

We had an unbelievable team that was at Melbourne in 1956 and they probably even eclipsed the achievements of the Beijing Bhoys.

I am not sure that Kenny won the final - granted the Chinese boys were getting a lot of nods out there and poor Paddy Barnes didnt get a point despite scoring plenty of clean shots but I thought the Chinese guy just shaded it in Kenny's final.

Been watching boxing since 1982 however I have been out of Ireland for 15 years and pre the internet boom it wasnt easy getting am info. I wasnt doubting you I was just asking because I am sure he was LHW in 2004 because Lee was the middleweight - if so thats a jump of 12kg in 2 years.

Perkins beat Egan in the 4 nations but I don't know what year, After it Egan moved up to 81kg from 75kg.. Perkins was brilliant at that time!!

Egan has won an Irish senior title ten years in a row. First two titles (2001 & 2002) were at middleweight and the remainder at LHW

He had 2 years out mate, He's in the ABA's this year at 75kg and has just won his first fight back!! Hopefully he can go on and claim the title for a third time!!
