That is the question.

I have been asked by a poster to survey you lot to gauge the general feel. So vote whether you want to see all topics on a specific fight merged, or prefer them to be left alone. I can't make any promises, other than I will discuss this with the Boss if the outcome is less merging. But at least your voice will be heard.

Rules are that voters must have > 100 posts, or have been registered on BoxRec for at least 6 months, otherwise the vote will be ignored. I will run this for 2 weeks to make sure habitual and casual posters both get a say.

Let the threads develop 'organically' and stay at the top of the page or fade from view on their own merits.

The only times I see merging as a valid policy is to bring together parallel RBRs or if a fight preview/review thread is doubled up.

If a new thread starts looking at a particular aspect of a given fight (ie the ref'ing, for example) it should be left unmerged IMO.

I agree with Terry. Merge RBR's that are just duplicating each other, but I see no harm in letting other threads be.

Multiple threads on one fight, fighter, or anything else boxing related is healthy for a forum. It often creates more interest and helps to build the hype towards a particular event. More importantly though, it offers users selectivity of conversation.

If merging is to continue on any level, i feel it needs to be kept to an absolute minimum.

I agree. I agree also on RBR - although merged RBR can be confusing at times.

I think less merging is the way forward. Unless they are almost identical threads like the 2 or 3 on Prizefighter the cruiserweights that have been knocking about or RBR's.

some like to talk on one aspect of the fight & that soley i.e the dirrell disq, it creates juicy debates but others would prefer to talk on the 11rds before hand.

dont merge but deffo bin inactive threads instead.

The thing I'd still really like to see is threads not pertaining to British and Irish fighters elbowed straight out of the British and Irish section and into the Current Scene.
Maybe a bad week to generalise with the Haye fight looming, but of the current 50 slots on the opening page of the British and Irish forum, less than 20 relate to British and Irish fighters and if you subtract the Haye related stuff, books, odds, predictions and suppositions it leaves about a dozen topics .

Disagree quite largely here. There is a reason why there are not many threads on other fighters.... either they are not capturing the imagination or there is not alot happening with them.

Yes, its a British and Irish forum, but I also like to read THESE members views on world issues - without the other crap - and usually there will be a contribution relating to a British fighter in such a thread.

Your not going to have a dicussion on Mayweather vs Mosley without 1 reference to Hatton. Not going talk about the Light Middle scene without 1 reference to Ryan Rhodes. Look at my thread on Tua for example.... Haye got mentioned there. Dirrell vs Abraham concerns Froch.

It won't happen on the current scene, so why do we need to tamper - this forum is going good.

If you feel a fighter or a fight is not being discussed enough, well.... start a post on him.

If its a really juicy discussion then leave multiple threads. If its just run of the mill, the merge them.

Abraham/Dirrell needed a few threads because there was numerous discussions.

Unless it's baseless attack, then that would just get merged or deleted.

I agree. In my opinion its a no to moving threads to current scene, and no to merging unless its a duplicate like rbr (as has already been stated).
