Matthew Macklin vs. Daniel Geale being lined up for June.

Seen this posted over on the Australian forum.

It is also posted on Geale's official website http://www.danielgeale.com.au/?p=263

More than likely it will be an eliminator for Sylvester's IBF Belt and the obvious reason why Macklin vacated the EBU. Will Macklin and his team be willing to travel to Australia for this fight or will Geale bite the bullet and travel over to this side of the world?

The Aussies seem to think that Macklin is only a stepping stone to better things and appear to be more focused on Sylvester rather than Macklin himself. Geale likes to visit the canvas, been knocked down five times against lesser opponents and I think Macklin would put him through hell and back whether it be in Sydney, Birmingham or Dublin.

Any opinions?

Edit: This is not a thread about how great Darren Barker is, just in case anyone is tempted to hijack.

Good fight, but I'd rather see Darren Barker v Matthew Macklin regardless if people think Barker is great or not.

sounds like a good, value for money fight. should be lots of punches.

hopefully no one pulls out, if it gets signed that is.

the lure of a title fight with sylvester - not a right good champ - should make the risk worth it.

Good news for Macklin as I was a little worried he was beginning to lose the great momentum he had built up, tough assignment though.

With Hatton promotions behind Macklin, im sure this fight will be in England. Good luck Macklin!

Dont bet on it.Ricky was talking business to a big promoter over there only a couple of months ago.Could see the live gate been much bigger there. They are a very patriotic nation who get behind there own.Geale is better known there than Macklin is here

If this fight is on in Australia, it will be PPV so the financial incentives are there for Macklin to travel. Agree that it will be a much bigger fight in OZ than it would be in the UK or Ireland. I could be wrong but from what I have been told, Geale is a bigger draw than Mundine over there.

but aren't there only 2 PPV draws in australia, green and mundine? (and one man who has excelled at world level, darchinyan, who fights mostly in america on showtime.)

geale is a good fighter - his loss to mundine was close, and a terrific boxing match - but i don't think he's box office over there.

I'm only going on what I've been told by a few Aussies that I used to work with and looking at the Australian forum, some of them are implying that it would be PPV also. Don't hold me to it though, I'm only recycling others info :TU:

Mundine is very unpopular in Australia.Everyone wanted Geale to win over there, except Mundine's mates who were alledgedly intimidating the judges

Mackilin seems to have gone through his fair share of promoters, trainers, managers etc, is he trying to blame them for his slow burning career? Or being ready to regularly jump ship has held him back because they don't have faith in his loyalty?

but still he's a draw, he gets the TV money, even though many ppl know he's taking the piss and basically a very gifted waste of talent whose desperate gimmicks have run dry.

Of course he does,he was a famous Rugby Leauge player before he donned the gloves, and that sport is massive in Australia.Imagine a high profile premiership player turning pro and getting to world level(i said high profile,Curtis :D )He's also very conroversial in his comments(some racist,i believe)and has a famous father.Again,a great P.R man,and he has managed to regain his arrogance even after getting ktfo by Sven Ottke!I dont even think Anthony Small could manage that
