Good piece Martin.

Maher is moving along nicely without to much of a fuss. Slapbangwhallop is already bigging him up as the future Irish welterweight champion. He has even designed a fight promo poster for Maher vs Prunty - Irish Welterweight Title. Maybe he would care to share his work of art if he sees this? :P

That would be great! I remember declaring Bernard Dunne to be a future world champ, even before he went pro!!!! :TU:

Glad you like the piece!

Loved the dismissive tone of the women's fights!
The bill also gave us two ladies fights. All showed great heart.

Why was Crolla fighting a journeyman?

Easing him back from his loss, I presume.

There was a good article in Boxing Monthly about some of the fighters on this bill, anyone read it? The only two who looked like they fought in the end were Murphy who lost, and J. Corkovic who won.

Didn't get BM this month, what was said about both??

Crolla has a title shot next apparently, think this was a workout, not an excuse to get cut..just my take

Are we all on board with Women's boxing here?

The three non-debutant women boxers all had very weak records.

I've nothing against women's boxing, but would it hurt to have some GOOD women's boxing?

Spitko was a hard fight for Murphy who had never fought as an amateur or pro

Good to see Spitko pick up a win.
I've seen him box before and he did look as if he could be a class act on his day.
Far too inconsistent, though :witzend: .

Not great to hear that Razak was battered around.
I've got a lot of time for that guy and just hope the punishment and the regularity that he's taking it isn't taking its toll on a guy in his late 30s.
He'll know better than anybody I suppose.

This is his fourth fight sinse that loss, though.

Based on the comments above and in the article, this does sound badly one-sided, even by "journeyman" standards.

Boxing Monthly article was hilarious.
As soon as I saw the line up though I thought Murphy stood a fair chance of losing his debut fight.
Anybody on here see Spitko's fight with Kreshnik a few weeks before? I was really a draw. The official score line was clearly for diplomatic reasons

Ah, I didn't realise that. Time does fly. You're right then.

A promoter, can't recall his name, is using positive discrimination and only wants to have fighters in his stable who have criminal records. Murphy is the exception but the article said since leaving the army he's found it difficult to re-adapt to society. Pretty interesting stuff, but the Corkovic brothers look hard, I wouldn't get on the wrong side of them. This promoter is working closely with Hatton Promotions and is urging all of his fighters to go for KO's in every fight.

In my opinion I can't see Crolla doing much.

He does seem to be talented and have ability. But I just don't see no X-Factor in him. He may one day grab a English Title and a Commowealth. But I don't see him going much further, than this.

And lets not forget he has already two defeats, and he hasnt even challaged for a British Title yet. :(

It looks like he could be getting the Sykes rematch for the British Title, but I see Sykes beating him again.

Just my opinion do. :box:
