the BBC have made an offer for the fight too. Does this mean there are more to come, or is it a one off??

Beats me. Froch's is a bigger fight too.

Fairly obvious its because Khan is a bigger casual draw. Khan is a household name in the UK, as big as Calzaghe and Hatton, Froch isnt.

Also, Froch isnt only on stream, he's ppv on primetime.

I'm not sure if this is good news or not?

Ok it's good if Khan gets that little more exposure but is he a boxer who's reputation is going to suffer whether this fight is on terrestrial TV or not?

If ITV are going to dip their toes into the boxing waters again then it must be done with realistic backing and a long term strategy. If Khan is just going to be a one-off then I'd rather Sky get it as their dedication to our sport has only been matched by Setanta in recent years.

I think its great news - if Khan gets big viewing figures then it can only help to persuade ITV to look at more boxing in the future.

I think its great news, especially if theres a peach of an undercard scrap. Could re-ignite interest in boxing with the old casuals again.

Mind you, will ITV show this live?? Saying that calzaghe Lacy wasnt much earlier than 2am, and im sure khan malinaggi will be around 2am.

Lets be realistic though pal, what figures can the channel really expect when the fight is due to go on at around 3/4am?

Viewing figures seem to mean fornicate all when it comes to boxing.

Didn't Clinton Woods/Rico Hoye do around 5m at 11pm on a Friday night? It didn't force BBC to reconsider their stubborn stance.

Froch/Pascal done 8m, Barker/Butler done over 600k on ITV4 whilst going head to head with X Factor and Strictly yet it fails to make anyone at the station take notice.

A long term strategy with realistic resulst is what's necessary. I honestly think a broadcaster could learn so much from visiting these forums and listening to the views of passionate fans who know the sport from top to bottom.

isnt the fight in New york, so a 2am start time (ish). Sure Calzaghe Lacy was a 2am-er.

I agree though, Im not sure they take too much notice, although are those figures accurate?

5m for Hoye Woods and 8m for Froch Pascal. Thats more than a standard corrie / enders night isnt it?

I'm recalling the figures but I'm confident they're accurate. Someone please correct me but I don't think I'm far off.

Here's what I propose.

A monthly 90 minute show fronted by Buncey and featuring real boxing people
A deal given to a couple of promoters so that domestic shows can go out a couple of times a month
A closer look at giving amateur boxing a proper home. Tomorrow's generation are relatively unknown due to the sport being ignored until the Olympics come along. I sat ringside at Alsop Leisure Centre 2 Saturday's ago as Anthony Fowler and Callum Smith put on a mini-epic that made big news up here in Liverpool. It barely got a mention anywhere else. What a shame.
American/Worldwide boxing on Sunday evenings like the beeb used to have early last decade. Forrest/Mayorga 1 and 2, Ward/Gatti 2 and 3, Night of the Young Heavyweights, Toney/Jirov, Wright/Mosley, Barrerra/Pac. All these fights were shown on the BBC and it made refreshing viewing.
Lastly, a big advertising campaign that will ensure viewers know when fights are going to happen. Boxing has always done decent numbers with hardly any fanfare so imagine what is achievable with the right motives. Boxers on talk shows, adverts during X Factor, Characters in Corrie discussing fight outcomes in the Rovers.

I might be asking alot but boxing can deliver the ratings and revenue that a TV station requires. Is Moto GP, the IPL or cycling really justifying ITV's sporting budget?

Decent times though mate

Ya wanna know my lasting memory of those late Sunday nights?

Dominic Guinn nearly taking Michael Grant's head off on the Gatti/Ward 3 undercard. I thought Guinn was the real deal

Nah. I don't have the exact figures for that one but I'd be astonished. Clinton used to average around a mill - I have the figures for some of his fights. Audley did 5 mill for his debut (I think) at 9.45pm and the figures declined steadily after that.

Im gonna say it was closer to 5m then 1m, I don't know why that figure is in my head but it's there for some reason.

I will scour my Boxing News' from that era to seeif the exact figure is in there.

I'm certain it done a big number as it was BBC's last show
