Rhodes WBC shot

Well, Chavez vs Duddy are going to be fighting for the WBC I'd say. Either is a winable fight for Rhodes. Cintron is in the ratings. No offense to the Rhodes supporters but if Rhodes was hurt by the Gary Locketts, Cintron would send him to Mars with a right hand so I think thats a bad fight to take for dimensional reasons as well as power reasons. Rhodes would be outsized and outgunned. But he should try to get the Chavez Duddy winner, who may well be Duddy. I would favour Rhodes to beat him.

Rhodes the LM weight would be outsized by Kermit Cintron who has campaigned mostly at Welter? Why's that then?

Margarito busted up and broke Cintron's heart. It's not inconceivable Rhodes could beat him, age being against him as it is, if he put quality shots together and could sustain a high workrate.

Mate, that is the type of post that typifies the bias on this forum at times. We got it bigtime with Moore, and now people are making arguments that Rhodes could beat Cintron.

Oh dear.

Rhodes is a light middleweight. Duddy and Chavez will be fighting at middleweight. Duddy has never made 154 in his life and has said that he cannot make that weight.

Rhodes would not beat Cintron and lol at someone comparing Rhodes to Margarito. Rhodes is not in the same league as Margarito and I wouldn't be suprised if he wasn't at Angulo's level either. Rhodes is at the same level Gary Lockett was when he fought Pavlik. Some people on this forum have talked about Rhodes being favored over Martinez and Moore beating Paul Williams. These two fighters are definitley over rated on here.

rhodes is a tricky, awkward fighter who can cause anybody trouble, his last fight everything was against him! and he pulled it off, showed lots of experiance. i think he deserves a shot! :box:

Rhodes is ranked no 4.
Cintron is no 3 but has already indicated an intention to campaign at Middle.
Chavez is No 1 and is shortly returning after his suspension and has already said he's campaigning at Middle.
Martinez is the belt holder but has to make a decision about which WBC title he holds on to.
I suspect it will be Middle.
Margarito is no 2 but if I'm honest don't understand why.
He's fighting on the undercard of the Cintron fight on 8th May for the International belt that Rhodes vacated, against Garcia.
Purely from a logical point of the rankings if both come through their May engagements why not Margarito v Rhodes for the vacant title assuming Martinez stays at Middle ?
Can the WBC make any logical argument to consider anyone else ?
I don't understand the logic of saying Rhodes v Cintron / Duddy.
Let's make it clear Rhodes is campaigning at Light Middle where he remains unbeaten.

i just hope that ryan beating moorsey in that war was not ryans last hurrah, i would love to see rhodes cap off a fine career by winning a world title, then retire with his faculties intact.

Twenty Six

I read an interview with Margarito recently, and he was saying that its his intention to go down to 147 and see if he can get a fight with Mosely or Pacquaio.Am not sure if this is helpful or not?

martinez strangely wants to defend his light middle title vs margarito. he might keep the belt, and defend both his 154 and 160 titles.

i think it;s patronising to say that ppl who believed in moore were biased. i doubted the guy at first, but the macklin win went on to look better and better, lujan was a scalp that should have got him close to a world title opportunity and the way he swiftly dispatched piccirillo was very impressive - much swifter and more brutal than world champs had beaten piccolo.

though rhodes stopped moore, and though he has power, i'm still not sure how i rate his chances on the world scene. rhodes seems really good on the back foot, but he doesn't throw many punches. he fought a lanky brit on setanta, and rhodes couldn't finish the guy - his skills at coming forward might be questionable. still he deserves his shot, after the moore and vuma fights.

Auto,
I'll be surprised if they let him keep both.
Unless of course he continues to pay double sanction fees.
Lennox,
You ok mate ?
Thanks for that.

I guess all we can do is sit back and await developments.
After all there's more than one sanctioning organisation so oppertunities may spring up elsewhere.
In the meantime he'll be concentrating on his first EBU defence on 21st May 2010.
Tickets already going really well.

blimey - ring mag have rhodes as their #4 contender at light middleweight!

i'm glad he's in their top ten but it was surprising seeing him in their top 5.

didn't know he was THAT well regarded (despite his superb comeback). i hope it has some bearing on him getting a shot at WBC champ martinez - who despite being middleweight king wants to keep his light middle belt - though it's probably wishful thinking from me.

will it be another display of power from rhodes? he's been hitting very hard on the comeback.

can hatton move rhodes' career to the next stage? i wonder has rhodes done his best work already - like dean francis did in that great fight with oakey - or is there plenty more in the tank?

(couldn't resist.)

He's won his last 6, albeit against VERY modest opposition.
