Whatever you say about Wlad Klitschko...he's just had 110,000 thousand people live audience for his past 2 fights...only Manchester United can match that in this country for sporting occasions.
The simple fact is that Satelitte channels are the only ones who can afford to pay for boxing coverage now.

just emailed them this...
"does anybody care about boxing?" NO!!!
that IS an accurate answer for the average sport fan, never mind general public...
"can that be changed?" YES, YES, YES!!!
"How?"
- the B.S Hype has got to go, calling boxers great, while they don't even fight contenders never mind champions - and after only 20- 30 (or less) fights too, C'mon!
too many titles & sanctioning bodies - No one knows the champions and they don't care either!
FORCE fighters to meet each other - Rules, the sanctioning bodies, (preferably 1), 2 or 3 at the most!
Proper Elimination titles - Local, Regional, National, International - drums up interest and gives you True & Honest Champions and contenders!!!
LESS weight divisions - only 12, one being S-HW - land of the giants
number of fights, again back to Local, Regional, National, International, fighters MUST fight at least every 2 months, 4 IF their champions - NO world title fights with less than 30 fights - earn your way to a title
clean it up, make it a followable SPORT again with again Local, Regional, National, International titles and showdowns druming up interest.
STOP talking _hite and hyping mediocre over protected champions - HONOUR the TRUE GREATS and give us REAL fighters, Contenders & CHAMPIONS!!!
People WILL RETURN

I agreed with pretty much everything else you said but i do think the average sports fan is still interested in Boxing, they just dont get to watch it as its not on terrestial tv anymore or know when its on Sky.
Whenever a big domestic fight is on in a bar where i'm watching, every person stops to watch it and gets totally into it...they may not know who they're watching but they enjoy it.

I reckon Sky could do a little bit more in publicising the sport.
I do appreciate the great effort they put in but how much exposure does it give its average Friday night show?
They have a 24 hour dedicated sports channel and they only manage to find just enough time to promote whatever fight is on. How about mentioning the fight at the top of the hour when introducing the headlines, maybe a fight poster showing occassionally in the sidescreen that usually displays league tables, could you bring in an outside guest who could offer his opinion on the fight?????
There are many ways to help boxing reach a greater audience but no one seems to know how to get the ball rolling.
Mayweather/Hatton was a classic example as it was everywhere you turned.

boxing certainly does need hype as it gets ppl excited. average fans will care, but only if there's a hatton, calzaghe or hayemaker in a high profile fight.

They should call it TalkFootball. I didn't hear tonight's debate - doesn't sound as if I missed much - but when I have heard them talk boxing it's usually shite.

i like the station a lot and listen to it all the time and everyone from Adrian Durham and Mike Parry to Stan Collymore and H&J i like. However i just feel Gough shouldnt talk football as he is no more than a casual fan and a weekness in a normally very strong line up.
Steve Bunce was on H&J today talking about his book

H& j are good, Durham a tit at times though. Irani is bad too !

Especially when I used to be on! They used to ring me up for the occasional evening show but I seem to be out of the loop these days.
Goughie is f*cking hilarious - 'I love cheese...I eat about about five blocks a week' etc.
Talksport is an airwaves pub. Full of headbangers who are all authorities, if you get my drift. The biggest prick, perhaps intentionally so, is Adrian Durham. On the rare occasions he takes a caller who can articulate a contrary view, he gets flustered and shouts 'What planet are you on!'.
I remember him trying to justify how John Terry moving to Man City could be justified as a 'football move' rather than a 'money move'. He bullied the f*ck out of the retards they screened then one fullwit got on...cue 'What planet are you on!' about 30 seconds later.

Agreed Irani is usually so far up Brasil's arse i can barely hear what he's saying !
Mike Parry has me in stitches

To be fair I did laugh at 'calm your skin down'.

it should be called TalkShite.
I gave up listening years ago & it doesnt sound as though it has improved.
i suppose there was a novelty factor at first & I remember listening with some amusement to Mike Parry's banal rants about Mike Tyson but it soon got old, & the last straw was afternoon presenter Richard Kaufman doing a piece on a forthcoming fight and he started off with 'surely its just two blokes having a fight'.
as if they woudl start a football preview with 'its just 22 blokes kicking a ball around'.

The reality is that TalkSPORT does NOT seem to care about boxing.
I was on to talk about my book at about 2:30 - then, as I understand it, they lifted stuff I said about the lack of coverage in papers.
TalkSPORT should have a weekly boxing show, but the men in control keep saying no to the idea. Are they anti-boxing?
People care about boxing. Each week more and more people listen to my BBC London show and the success last year of the Setanta show is proof that people care.
TalkSPORT need a boxing man, that's all they need. They have kicked me and any boxing ideas into touch so many times that I'm dizzy!
Meanwhile, for those that still care...Thursday 7-8pm my Boxing Hour on BBC London 94.9, Friday night on Colin Murray's BBC Five Live show there will be a live preview of Froch from Denmark and on Saturday night on BBC Five live join me, Mick Costello and Richie Woodhall for Froch v Kessler live.
Adios.

Hey Buncey WHY don't you address these facts and get people like Warren, Golden Boy, Bob Arim and Hatton on board to truely change boxing and bring people back - it could be big again!!!

Of course people care about boxing. It's just arsehole channels like Talksport that care only about football that think it is clever to talk down to other sports.

Absolutely. Football is an all-consuming beast. I used to love it but it's just got so out of hand.

I stopped listening to TalkSport the day in the middle of glowing tributes to Sir Bobby Robson I think it may have been Adrian Durham started talking about how Newcastle fans once spat on Sir Bobby when he dropped Kevin Keegan from the England Squad in the early 80s.
I rang up to try and complain and was cut off.
It should be re-named 'TalkWestHam' or 'TalkBig4' etc etc etc
All I want from my sports shows is balance. TalkSport does not in my experience give you that.
Seemingly they have alreasy been banging on about 'deluded Newcastle fans' bla bla bla already this week - must be their retaliation for their dismay at those loveable Geordies having the temerity to not 'do a Leeds' and falter.
Rant over
