Carl Froch & Hennessy Sports

WOW!!!!! (Kessler v Froch)
That was some fight and I am truly gutted at the outcome - I had Kessler winning the fight but had it mighty close!!
Froch proved yet again his warrior instinct and he truly belongs in world class.
The crowd was amazing and that must of lifted Kessler.
Lets now see Froch's true world class qualities - in that lets see how he now reacts to the defeat.
However the real purpose of this thread is - what next for Hennessy Sports - I was desperate to see Carl win, because it would have held some sway with regards to how Hennessy Sports were going to feature in the promotional stakes in this country and potential TV deals being discussed in July - a Froch win would have been sensational for both Froch and Meaty Mick - the defeat for me is a massive blow and its some time since I have been this gutted at a UK boxer losing
It was a truly magnificent fight - but the massive question has to be for me how do BOTH - Froch and Hennessy Sports come back from this - I sincerely hope strongly.

froch v abraham is a must win for both fighters, its also an essential win for mick hennessey. it will be a tear up. beat abraham and the kessler defeat drifts into insignificance. froch will then be in the semi finals !!

Rhino hello mate!!!
I am gutted for Meaty Mick Hennessy too - he is a boxing man through and through and he will take this defeat of Carl's personally - I think you know that.
I really hope Mick survives all of the politics and back stabbing that is presently going on and gets a TV deal.
I also hope Carl comes back strongly - problem is them sort of fights take an awful lot out of both fighters.

I don't think the outcome of tonights fight has much of a bearing either way Spud. Fact is promoters find it hard to get boxing on tv at the best of times, and in the current climate Hennessy promotions have got no chance. Primetime is the only real avenue for them.

Froch won the WBC on ITV in a classic in front of millions, he then defeated the former undisputed middleweight champ in his own backyard, even after that TV weren't interested in him. Proper TV weren't interested in him facing the former double world champ known for giving calzaghe a hard fight.
let's be honest spud even if froch had won tonight it wouldn't have made any dent into the networks at all, if they were interested they would have shown this fight.
it is a blow for HS but not as massive in terms of TV as you are making out

Hello pal!!!
I have been really lucky to get to know a couple of promoters here and there - Mick Hennessy is a proper boxing man - he used to travel the length and bredth of the world watching fights both professional and amateur - and when you see him in private with his boxers you can see he really cares for them - however he also has a living to make and boxing is the cruelest of them all to try to make it in my view. I hope Meaty Mick bounces back.

I will comment on your last line - I think you are wrong - Meaty Mick is not the sort of chap who particularly likes getting shows off another promoter in this case he is presently doing shows with Matchroom - in my view a win against Kessler really would have catpulted Froch into most peoples thinking with regards boxing and thus it would have turned a lot of heads towards Hennessy too. It is just my viewpoint that this fight was as big for Hennessy Sports as it was for Carl Froch.

On the other hand if he beat Kessler many would have said Kessler was shot - he lost his last fight and Calzaghe beat him anyway so what's the big deal? I think you are overstating the issue

So that's why John Murray is fighting for Matchroom next time out? His career has really stagnated of late. It was only last year we were talking about him and Khan getting it on. I don't think anyone really believed it would happen, but now they are a million miles apart.

got to hand it to froch. he may not be the best super middleweight, but he tries. and he has been in 3 of the best super middleweight fights, ever (pascal, taylor, kessler).
he is kind of like the margarito of the super middleweights with that wide open slugging style. like margarito i wonder if all those flush head shots (and last night, body shots) are really taking their toll.
he will gain some respect in defeat. many US fans held dear to the belief that kessler would KO froch because froch "ain't no librado andrade."
at least that one is cleared up!
froch must be careful vs arthur abraham, who can probably fell a tree and nail it to the floor - if he lands right. froch must outwork him, especially whe he covers up.

Cracking fight.A proper world class tear up. I felt Kessler won it by 4 rounds. He bossed the middle rounds and led the fight.Incredible toughness to both men though, flippin heck.Granite chins, the pair of them.
I don't think Hennessy will have any difficulty, Froch is still in the tournament and that's that.

I think its too easy to say Froch lost this fight but he will come back stronger. Carl has his style of fighting which I personally dont like and he sticks with it regardless and changes nothing from fight to fight. He fights with his heart and he has good ring skills but now he is fighting the best he just isnt winning the rounds. It surely wasnt in his gameplan to be 3 or 4 rounds down to Taylor because he knew he could get the KO in the 12th. The KO did come but there was no way Froch could have relied on it. I didnt see the Direll fight but from what I understand Froch only just got the points win. Kessler for me was a fight Carl couldnt win. I knew he couldnt stop Kessler and I was certain Froch couldnt get the points win. Abraham is an incredible fighter and I think this will be loss number two for Froch. I seriously believe Ward will win the tournament and Froch will be sitting watching. Although Froch is very good I dont think he is at the level of Ward, Kessler and Abraham. As for Meaty Mick I think he has done his level best for Carl Froch and while he must be disapointed that his fighter lost, not only the fight but his title, he has nothing to blame himself for, and should take a pat on the back for all his efforts to get Carl this far. Sadly I think Froch has found his level and the bar is just too high for Froch to get over. The World titles belong with the best man and thats what this tournament is all about. Being a World champion and not being the best is what spoils boxing. Carl lost to the better man but lets now see who the best man is.

We don't know that Froch-Abraham is a must win fight for both. If Dirrell loses to Ward and Green beats neither Ward nor Kessler, both Froch and Abraham will progress regardless of the outcome of their fight.

Really? What are the rules in regards to tie breakers? I heard it was total rounds won, and in that case Dirrell is ahead of Froch, even though his last fight only went ten.
Edit: I see they go by head to head result. I think there is actually a good chance both AA and Froch get through. I don't see Green winning either of his fights and Dirrell is going to have a very tough time beating Ward.

It was a hell of a fight - both men were a huge credit to boxing. I think the loss will do Carl a bit of good, i.e. working on the mistakes etc. You can see the world title means everything to him, so he'll be hungry to get it back.

One wonders what kind of figures Froch is looking for from Sky, because the simple fact is that he is a better and more exxciting fighter than nine tenths of the guys they feature - Warren's "prospects" fighting pushovers and cheap imported PPVs. They must know that he would get more viewers, so I can only assume that the numbers are unrealistic and just don't stack up...

Define "shot"
To me a "shot" fighter is somebody who no longer has the dedication, confidence and determination which you need to succeed, none of which Kessler seemed to be missing on saturday.
Mike Tyson v Kevin McBride is the perfect example of a "shot" fighter IMO, a pathetic, passionless display against a man who he would have wiped the floor with in his prime.

Kessler shot? No way, he was absolutely magnificent against Froch. You could'nt ask any more from Mikkel.
