The home town decision debate

What do people think on this. Tonight we saw some fairly wide scorecards but in most peoples eyes the correct result.
Personally I'm not gonna be one who moans about home towners as I actually think here in England we have our own little reputation. I'v read some complaining about the 117-111 scoredcard tonight but immedicately remembered the 118-110 scoredcard in the Froch vs Pascal fight. Witter vs Kotelnik had a 117-111 scorecard as well.
Are we whiter than white here in the UK?

Thought the Danish crowd for Kessler v Froch were magnificent - they were like having another judge in favour of Kessler and it must of helped sway the judges in the closer rounds.
However with that said - our boxers get the same perks when big fights happen in this country.

I think it has alot to do with the fans. Today we saw the Danish fans - and the close rounds probably going to Kessler. Tillerman's card does seem way out - but how many rounds did Froch win beyond dispute. I gave him 4, and a case for a fifth round. But I think only 3 of these were beyond dispute - so by giving all the close rounds to Kessler then a 117-111 card is plausible (not correct, but plausible).
This time though, all you could hear were the pro Danish fans. It was the same with Froch vs Dirrell and for the other fights you mention.
Turn it up on its head though - Calzaghe vs Hopkins (with one ridiculous card), Hatton vs Collazo, Haye vs Valuev - away fighter winning the fights.... but the noise was all coming from the Brits.
I said after the Froch vs Dirrell fight there should be away to prevent the judges from hearing the crowd.... but how though.

There are bad decisions everywhere....i did have it 116-112 so even though that Tillman character is very dodgy i dont think it was an outrageous score, more just favouring the hometown guy in close rounds.
I had Dirrell winning 115-113 against Froch yet the official scores were
113-114 - Dirrel
115-112 - Froch
115-112 - Froch
so those last 2 scores were just as outrageous to me as the Tillman one.

Don;t forget Dirrell had a point taken off. If you scored it 7-5 to Dirrell that would make it 114-113, so the 115-112s are only 1 round being scored differently.
You are right tho, and obviously my initial point shows I agree with you, I think we do tend to over-react a little at times.

hometown fighter usually gtes benefit of doubt. fights are settled not only in the ring, but outside. hence the crafty placing of judges/refs, particularly in the super 6 tourney (consider: the promoter has no choie whom his fighter will fight).
look at last night's heavyweight bout. adamek puts on clinic vs arreola, but only wins a 114-114, 115-113, 116-112 majority decision.

I've no idea why the "home town" decision debate is being discussed after last night. Thought Kessler was a clear winner. I had it Kessler's fight by 3 or 4 clear rounds.
Froch was pretty negative last night, staying on the backfoot and looked like pub brawler lunging in with wild swings. He didn't like fighting a come forward fighter with a high work rate. After Froch got lucky against Dirrell and Taylor, i think he got exposed last night for the average boxer he is.
I've no idea what fight Primetime were watching, they seemed to be clutching at straws trying to promote a Froch win.

I'm really down in the dumps that the UK fighter is no longer Champ, but have to be honest and say I thought the result was right - but maybe the margin was wrong.
Bottom line is Carl and his team knew in advance they'd have to be wide in front on away soil, and that applies to fighters coming over here.
Carl missed his chance in rounds 4 and 5.
If he'd followed up when he had got Kessler wobbling I don't think there would have been a need for the judges score cards.
You only have to listen to what Buncey said to know how it works.
"The close rounds should always be scored in favour of the Champion".
I don't agree.
The judges should score it to who they think won it, or give it even.

Your spot on, This why promoters fight tooth and nail to get there fighter home advantage..
We are no different over than they are anywhere else.. The examples above prove this..

I didn't think the result was debatable - i was happy with either man winning as I just couldn't pick between them for a lot of rounds.
Tilleman is a crook though, let's make no bones about it he has been on Wilfried Saulerland's Christmas card list for years.
The italian had it closest.

Gomez, can you honestly make a case for Froch winning the fight??
I am a huge Froch fan, but he didn`t win that fight, no way. It was close, but Ihave now watched it three times and Froch was beaten fairly.
What pisses me off is that he could have won it if he had applied a more attacking style.

I had it fairly wide to Kessler, I thought Froch would try and box with him early then take him into his territory but it never happened, he kept trying to box with Kessler and came of 2nd best most of the time. I think my scorecard was a little wide at 117-111 but Froch was too easy to hit with the jab and was very sloppy offensively, coming in with big uppercuts and wide swinging punches that Kessler very easily avoided. Sometimes Froch looked decent but other times he looked very sloppy and unschooled. Kessler had a very good night though
