GYMSTUFF: GOOD BOXING DRILLS
Posted: 25 Apr 2010, 06:03
Hi folks, seems like my request for a training forum has fallen on deaf ears. So as long as the MOD of this section doesn't mind I'd really like to get some good threads going about different aspects of training.
My idea is to open every thread relating to 'gym' topics with 'GYMSTUFF' that way the threads are easy to find and presumably easy to move should the interest in them be sufficient enough to find them a permenant home.
My first topic i'd like to disguss is Boxing drills.
I work as a personal trainer and I have a number of whitecollar's, ams and pro's who come to me for workouts. I have spent lots of time amassing different drills to target specific attributes and parts of their makeup as a fighter but i'm always looking for more.
What i'd like to put in this thread is different drills for people to try- please include what you think they improve and if possible where you got them from. If possible keep it simple and concise and I want ANY drills you've got. Even if you just train for fun and have no interest in ever competing. Likewise i'd greatly appreciate if some of the brilliant trainers on here like Arnie, Scrap, Kev Maree and Joe G would give us some input too.
I'll start:
Footwork Drill- England Squad
Level: intermediate/advanced
OK not sure if England still use it but most gyms have a number of bags in the gym. If your training one to one, number the bags. For example 1-6. The boxer works a normal three minute round on the bag. However every time you shout 'change' or a number you move to the corresponding bag. When moving ensure that you follow all the fundamentals of correct footwork. Its a challenging drill that tagets mobility but also due to the large amount of movement gets your heart racing, so will condition to. For progression you can increase the intensity of the punching or movement or add in cee
rtain exercises.
