Why is John Murray never that articulate in his television interviews?

And more importantly, who on earth is this bloke he's boxing for the EUROPEAN title? What happened to Anthony Mezaache??!

WTF?

mezaache had 2 gruelling european title fights - v thaxton and kudriavtsev - and pulled out of a showtime date in america for the EBU title, vs murray. to concentrate on a world title shot.

then kudriavtsev, who felt he was robbed vs mezaache in that absolute war in france, chose not to fight murray and got fined by the EBU. apparently he doesn't want to fight abroad ever again.

so next in line is lee mcallister, murray victim. thankfully mcallister is injured. so (correct me if wrong) hatton's fighter buckland was in the top 10 EBU ratings and hatton managed to put on murray v buckland.

interesting as it allows murray to keep the lonsdale belt (thus putting british scene behind him forever) and win the euro belt.

why doesn't he change promoters?

His contracts up this year I think?? He'll move on without question!! I personally think it's a disgrace the way this kid has been left out in the cold, barker,O'Donell and others have boxed so why has Murray been left out in the cold?? The lad has been training so it's nothing on his part I know that for a fact!! Good luck to the lad next week he deserves a break!!!

Totally agree, the lads a class act and should be featuring reguarly on Friday fight nights.

If his contract is up this year then surely he will move on to the Hattons makes sense Manchester and his brother is there. IF he leaves it will be the beggining of the end for Hennessey and his stable they will leave in their droves

Murray is a tit - not personally, i like the fella and he's a great boxer - but really he's let his career go to shit, any other fighter would have pounded down wazza's door or looked to a get a decent promoter. He could have got out of his contract easily instead he's been sat about and will be riddled with ring rust. He should be looking to the same level of fights as mitchell.

Spoke to John many times so I guess he may feel relaxed when we have our chats. Then again, I find his TV interviews good viewing -- he's a funny guy.

I just don't believe you mate, anytime he 'speaks' in a written article he suddenly gains a command of language that he doesn't have on screen. The article reads like one of those Hennessy PR pieces, and like the Sports Network releases when Amir Khan would suddenly have an arsenal of witty put downs for all his domestic rivals.

The scene is set for a cracking domestic showdown between two tough, talented, firmly driven characters. Murray in particular, schooled by Joe Gallagher, gets off the blocks well and maintains a breathless pace. Bring up both their records and meaningful fights against legit names and look what belts they have won. Makes for an interesting comparison.

When Murray wins the EBU his ranking will be propelled by it.

With the Valero situation, it would see his WBC come up for grabs. Given the connections with the WBC with Witter and Froch in the past, I bet it's something Hennessy can lobby for with success. Probably be a 2-fight, 4-way eliminator

Peterson, Mezzache, Soto, Vazquez and hopefully Murray would be the names kicking around.

A European title fight will not only realise a burning ambition for John Murray - it will help pay off some debts.

Manchester's British lightweight champion has been out of the ring for so long, he admits he has been forced to borrow money just to pay his bills.

"I'm not getting any younger and I need to make money," said Murray.

"I'm a professional boxer. It's a full-time job. When I'm not fighting, I'm not earning money."

It is a telling insight into the less glamorous side of boxing. Murray may have been dubbed the next Ricky Hatton, but he is a million miles away from being in the Hitman's league when it comes to earning potential.

While Hatton amassed a fortune of more than £40m thanks to mega-fights with Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, Murray is still waiting to hit the big time despite establishing himself as the No1 British lightweight.

It is seven months since his last fight - a stunning British title victory against Jon Thaxton.

At that stage the 25-year-old appeared to have the world at his feet as the No1 contender for Anthony Mezaache's European title, which would then set him up for a shot at WBO champion, Michael Katsidis.

But since then he's seen three title shots postponed after Mezaache vacated the belt and then Andrei Kudriatsev pulled out of a bout for the vacant crown.

Lee McAllister was then installed as his opponent, only to pull out with injury, setting up Friday's clash with Gary Buckland in Widnes.

Murray's inactivity has seen Kevin Mitchell usurp him as the lightweight on everyone's lips - himself earning a shot at Katsidis - while just paying the bills has become a issue for the Levenshulme star.

"I've been out for seven months - anyone would struggle if they weren't earning money for that length of time," he said.

"You have to borrow money to pay things like rent. The next time I fight, the money will have to go to paying people back."

It has been a frustrating chapter for Murray, who is just waiting for his career to explode.

A record of 16 knockouts in his 28 undefeated fights is evidence enough of his potential as a global star.

That was never more evident than with his stunning fourth- round stoppage of former European champion Thaxton in October.

"I established myself as the best in Britain with the way I beat Thaxton and I thought I'd be fighting for the European title after that," he said.

"In that time Kevin Mitchell has come up from super- featherweight, beaten Breidis Prescott and then Ignacio Mendoza who I beat five years ago.

"Now he's leap-frogged me to fight Katsidis. There's nothing I can do about it, but it is very frustrating because I'm the kind of fighter who likes to stay active."

If Murray needs evidence of how fortunes can change, he need only look to Mitchell, who admitted he needed promoter allegedly's help to pay his mortgage while recovering from a hand injury.

He is now on the verge of becoming world champion which could lead to a mega-fight with WBA light-welterweight champion Amir Khan.

Before that Murray must overcome Buckland for the vacant European belt, in a fight that will also see his British title on the line.

Victory would see him win the Lonsdale belt, which is worth around £20,000, outright. But a 29th win could lead to far greater riches for Murray, who must defend the European crown to Kudriatsev within 90 days.

Beyond that is the potential clash with Mitchell, which could take place as soon as December at either London's O2 Arena or the MEN.

he has more chance of being matched with kevin mitchell if he's with fw rather then hatton.

Not asking you to believe me, it is the simple truth. A vid link to him speaking to a fan site went up a few days ago and people said he was expressive and articulate. Ditto for previous interviews. Lots of boxers talk and express themselves well and Murray is no exception.

Was the same when I spoke to him years ago.

Murray v Mitchell? Only if Murray signs with FW and even then it wouldn't be a guarantee. Surely Murray has smelt the coffee by now and knows it's time to find a new promoter?
