I was thinking about football manager and wondering how viable a boxing computer game along the same lines would be.

My idea is that you could be a promoter with a certain budget. Then you'd have to try and sign fighters, book venues sort out training camps etc. all depending on your budget. Every decision you make would have further repercussions down the line and affect the future path of the game. I mean things like the fights you choose for your boxers, the belt route you take etc. And you'd also have to overcome things like injuries.

What do you reckon to that idea?

Me too. But I spend far too much time as it is on Football Manager. If a boxing game like this ever came to fruition my social life would be over!

I've met the guys at Sports Interactive (people who make Football Manager) a few times. Unfortunately they're stretched enough as it is working on the various versions of Football Manager and the Baseball game they make. Less people work on these games than you'd imagine.

I've been wanting them to make a Boxing Manager game for YEARS though! I reckon if they got some sort of huge endorsement/sponsorship to make a boxing sim, then perhaps they'd do it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but not holding my breath!

There are boxing manager games out there but sadly none of them are very good. Our best hopes are, imo, that this guy can produce something http://pcboxing.blogspot.com/ or that these guys http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/joomla/ can make a management game to go with their excellent boxing sim.

They don't make a baseball game. They had some involvement with OOTP a few years ago but that has ended, it's just football now.

There is one. I played Boxing Manager on ZX Spectrum over 20 years ago. Anyone else?

As you would expect it was very basic. To be honest i don't remember how much career control you had i just remember i think it was more like theboxinggame online thing where you control your boxers stats, climb the rankings and then you would watch your fights play out between two stick figures.

There was World Championship Boxing Manager on the Amiga and Atari ST in the early nineties.I enjoyed it at the time,but not sure how it would look now

Theres a PC one, Title Bout Boxing manager, not sure where I picked it up from. It's a bit outdated now as regards boxers but is sort of the style you are talking about.

I started something like this for mobile/iphone a while ago, spent ages working on the fight 'engine' but then stopped coz I didn't have time to see it thru. It wasn't quite career management, but could be extended I guess, more just matching 2 fighters (RJJ v Tyson, say), then picking tactics, etc, and watching the fight play out, which was footy manager style, rather than full on graphics. You could make adjustments in between rounds, so if you were getting hammered with the left hook you could set your man to start moving to his left more, or keep your hands up more, that kind of thing. Suppose its a trainer sim more than anything.

If I get laid off in the summer I'll defo pick it up again.

I ordered this game recently. Haven't played it yet, will let you know what it is like when I do. It looks half decent

Sorry mate I have played it and thought it sucked. Your fighter starts his career boxing 12 rounders. Things like that annoy me. You might enjoy it tho, I hope you do.

Sounds really interesting that mate, there is a distinct lack of quality boxing content on the iphone in terms of apps and games.

You're quite right, plus I was getting confused with the Ice Hockey game they did. Not even sure if they're still doing that one. I mainly play Football Manager 2010 now, but I was on the beta team for Football Manager Live for a couple of years too.

I have said this before , and contacted the makers of football manager , around a year ago , they said " At this moment in time we have a working agreement with out of the park developments that we allow them to focus on boxing whilst we work on the football side of things , however with this in mind we have never intended nor do we in future have any intentions to do a boxing release as we have a lot of work on to make sure the football manager series is as good as possible , thankyou "
or pretty much word to that effect .

in fairness the game they mentioned is the title bout series , which in my opinion is the best boxing sim out there , you can download new fighters , you can edit the database to make it as realistic as poss ( i spent 2 weeks editing before i bothered playing it ) , and you can manage a fighter through his career (or entire stable ) if you use some imagination as you have to arrange every fighter in the worlds fights . you can set at what stage there career advances to say prime or post prime etc , and at what point you want fighters to retire , its by far the best out there , the othere games that have tried to tie it all into a football manager type game have failed miserably ,
we should get some sort of petition going on here , as i know sigames who make football manager rely on people doing a lot of the work for them and they just do the programming , im sure the users of boxrec would happilly contribute the stats etc , about each fighter and the boxrec database itself would be a good source for them , theres surely a big game maker out there that would create this game , they wouldnt even need to package it , they could do it as a download only , and people like ourselves could provide updated databases every so often so theyd only need to bring out one version rather than one every year , maybe they could do the odd patch to add new features etc , lets get out heads together and get this game made .

Sadly mate they don't even make the ice hockey game any more. It sold poorly which SI blamed on piracy.

I am a researcher (non-paid mind!) for SI and I don't know of any working agreement with SI (Sports Interactive) currently. There was a couple of years ago when SI were involved with OOTP's baseball game and part of this agreement was that Title Bout was allowed a banner advert on SI's message boards. Like you say their position now is that they are focusing on their football games.

This is a very good idea mate. The guy who currently owns the rights to Title Bout (the programmer Andreas Raht) has publicly said the vast majority of his time is spent on their baseball game leaving no time for the boxing game which is just whithering and dying. He has said he is looking for a programmer to take the boxing game on but he can't afford to pay him!! A few of us on the OOTP message boards have said he is wasting his time looking for a volunteer, as in this economic climate people want to be paid.

i have just messaged the eidos games suggestion email , everyone should email them to express their interest in them making a game of this sort , for anyone who doesnt know , eidos are the makers of the championship manager series , which was the original football manager before a fallout led to them splitting up and the creation of football manager , so ireckon they definately have the ability to make this game if they feel it would be succesful . email address is : [email protected]

Edios are the publishers of Champ Manager, BGS are the makers. Both took a hit financially because Championship Manager has flopped since they split with SI, BGS have just let 80% of their staff go. Best to email Sega (the publishers of football manager).

ok , what ive done at the moment is put a post of the game suggestion on sega's forum as i dont see any email address for game suggestions or anything like that , would be good if some of you could take the time to post on this thread (which ill link below) , to show sega the game would be able to sell , to show theres a call for it , and to add some ideas etc to the thread , lets dot he hard work for them so all theyve got to do is make the dman thing lol . you will need to register on the sega forum which takes just a few minuttes . the thread link is : http://forums.sega.com/showthread.php?p ... ost5793934
