A couple of things....

Mayweather already claimed a LMW title by beating Oscar. I don't really see the point of this. In terms of pull I'd think a fight with Berto, Williams or even Cotto would be a bigger draw.

Also, Floyd & Pac may want fights where they earn 80-85% of the purse but surely 50% of a fight between the two would be worth more than a large percentage against another, lesser known fighter.

i think martinez is too big. it could be like the early stages of mayweather v judah, when mayweather was getting surprised by southpaw shots. but it could be like that for more than 4 rounds.

mayweather does look a healthy, fit, and full blown welterweight. he could take on a small middleweight who hlolds the prestigious middleweight championship of the world. but martinez is a lot fresher than mayweather's recent opponents, much mentally tougher and more focused than judah, and has superb handspeed not to mention an ability to change angles while still punching! judah, corley and mitchell - southpaws all - all hurt mayweather. martinez would be able to follow up, where they couldn't.

i think mayweather is using someone else's name to put pressure on pac to do what he has to do with the drugs testing and to sign the fight.

pavlik has a rematch clause, so martinez may not be able to take that fight. if mayweather isn't being genuine about fighting martinez, that either allows mayweather to pretend for longer, or to forget about him. personally i think martinez is more likely to fight duddy or chavez jr (WBC middleweight elim) and rematch both pavlik and paul williams on HBO.

mayweather via schoolage. money is in a diffrent league, martinez doesn't have a big enough rep for floyd to fight him! he needs to try and get pacman in the ring, and if not get andre berto

Too much of a risk for Mayweather and not enough for him to gain.

A LMW for the Linear Middleweight Title would add plenty to Mayweathers legacy, the selling point would be legacy stuff, a former 130lber going for the MW title. I think Mayweather wins but this is a tough tricky opperation against a man whos bigger in every way

Freddy Roach reckons the big 1 is a done deal, but this would be second best option for Mayweather, Williams third best, Berto would be fourth best.

it would be interesting if martinez got this fight. i think it's a horrible match for mayweather. imagine martinez going from fighting a massive, middleweight powerhouse, to fighting a truly brilliant welterweight.

one thing. i think the welters are hugely overated and that major talents mayweather and pac are breezing by some very stale looking guys who souldn't be at the weight or who should have moved up. martinezes freshness, speed of hand and foot, and variety, not to mention size, would probably make this very winnable fight for the argentinean.

i don't think it happens. mayweather can fight someone easier, smaller, or older, and still sell 1m PPVs. martinez will fight duddy/chavez jr, pavlik and then paul williams again. though the middleweight title (reward) vs a natural light middle (risk) makes sense for mayweather, maybe.

exactly.

pacquio is a much more comftable bout & more rewarding.

boxing or fans have never dictated mw's career & it's what people hate.

Its a historic win if he beats Martinez, the MIDDLEWEIGHT champion.
