Doesn't seem like a murderers row. I might put Holmes up there. He put together a decent post-Tyson career. That shows he wasn't totally done when Tyson fought him.

For me Holmes is no.6. There all very close I think. If Thomas was at his peak he woulda been #1. no doubt.

I have read accounts from boxing historians that suggest even the Prime Holmes would have lost to Tyson. I wouldn't go that far...

If any1 thinks that then fair enuff. But I think
Holmes beats Tyson. Holmes was well past his prime in their fight and he was also very unlucky to catch his glove on the rope just b4 da KO.

I think Bruno is way too high there.
At the time Tyson fought them:
1) Tubbs
2) Tucker
3) Thomas
4) Berbick
5) Smith/Ruddock
Bruno would be my 6th
Spinks should've lost to Holmes in the rematch and was never more than an above average HW.

As they say, let's roll to the tape:

Holmes was a crafty vet. You can see him desperately trying to tie up Tyson but he would have none of it.

NO!
But it was still unlucky! Dunno how u can't see that!
Also it was close to da end of R4.
There was a chance he coulda got Tyson 2 punch him self out.. Tho I very much doubt it.

1. thomas
2. Ruddock 1
3. Ruddock 2
4. Tucker
5. Holmes
Spinks was horrified and his legs were shot. That is probably his most significant win, but I don't think that version would have beaten many other guys that night. Though he wouldn't have been done in 90 seconds.
Holmes was just there for a payday, little to no training. But stopping Larry is still formidable.

U must be a Ruddock fan. U puts him in twice. Also Holmes is an iffy choice (but fair ennuff).
U should watch sum footage of Tubbs! He had amazing skills.

He fought him twice, I don't have to see Tubbs footage. I remember watching him fight live as an amateur . Amazing skills is a tremendous exaggeration. He wouldn't be in my top 10. He did compete in the worst fight I've ever seen against Greg Page. I have to give him that.
Holmes is iffy, there just aren't many good fighters that Mike beat.

Top 10?? Wow lets not get carried away here. Obvoiusly he had sum training probs. But he was better then Ruddock.

In your eyes, he wasn't better than Tyrell Biggs at the time of the tyson fights imo. I don't know if you're related to him or what. But tony had fast hands for a fat guy and a great chin. Never did much of anything. You're certainly entitled to your opinion. But don't pretend it would be shared by many.

That's kinda ridiculous. Tubbs was extremely slick and many including myself had him beating Bowe.
Ruddock was a one-armed, one dimensional fighter; certainly inferior to Tubbs and who shouldn't be in the top 5 here.

I find that ridiculous, Ruddock would have destroyed that blob. I didn't think he beat Bowe, but he gave him trouble. He also got destroyed by Lionel Butler. I never saw anything in Tubbs. He just didn't suck, that's the best i can say for him. he would fit in perfectly with todays Heavyweights.

He is overrated in my opinion, much overrated.

Maybe Bruno is a bit overrated here. But certainly not "WAY overated"! In that 1st fight he actually hurt Tyson more then Tucker did. And he was 100% fit and in his prime. As it happens the style of Bruno was made to order for Tyson! But he was still fairly competive for a couple of rounds. Maybe I could put Bruno #5 but no lower then that. He was certainly better then Ruddock or Holmes. One I 4got at the time was Bonecrusher. But even so id r8 Bruno very slightly higher. I think Bruno is being underated by sum peeps here!

I agree Holmes wasn't completely done when he fought Tyson but his post Tyson careers isn't really a factor in my view. Pre Mercer/Holyfield he had five fights in a year. Prior to Tyson he hadn't been in the ring since losing to Spinks two years before. He wasn't physically shot but he shouldn't have been fighting the heavyweight champion.

Also he only had 2 months 2 prepare... Bear in mind that heed been traveling wiv his band drinking beers and goin soft. And then he gets inda ring wiv Tyson who was in his absolute prime.
DonKing knocked on his door and sed "hello Larry" Larry sed "hello Don" Don sed "fight Tyson" Larry sed "NO" Don sed "il giv u 3mill, do it" Larry sed "ok"

That was a terrible version of Holmes, much worse than the one who fought Holyfield. but a terrible version of Holmes is still better than scrubs like Tony Tubbs.
It just goes to show how shallow Tyson's resume is. I always laugh when people rate him above Holyfield.

U r a Joke!
Calling Tubbs a scrubbs shows how ignorant u r.
A prime Tyson would of finished Holyfield inside 6. U see wat Bert Cooper did 2 Holy in round 1? Well Tyson would of finished him there! Tyson is top 10. Holyfield is top 20.

Haha, yeah I saw Holyfield drop Cooper in the first round with a body shot. What's your point?
If Tubbs is your father or something I didn't mean anything personal. I've never met the man. He just was nothing more than an average fighter with questionable dedication. His resume supports that.
As for Tyson rating higher, using your list of his victories and mine for Evander.
Bowe > Tubbs
Tyson > Spinks
Moorer > Bruno
Dokes = Thomas
Foreman > Tucker
I'm not sure why it's hurting your feelings so much. Your opinion of Ruddock doesn't bother me at all. Even if it's fairly obvious he was a much more dangerous opponent for Tyson than Tony Tubbs was. That fight was nothing more than an after thought for everyone. I've never seen Tubbs mentioned as a significant opponent for anybody. But you're entitled to your opinion. Don't let mine break your spirits.

Bowe > Tubbs MOST PEEPS THOUGHT THAT TUBBS WON.
Tyson > Spinks I THINK SPINKS WOULD OF BEAT 1996 TYSON. IL SAY 50/50
Moorer > Bruno A CLOSE FIGHT ID LEAN 2WARDS BRUNO
Dokes = Thomas BATTLE OF THE COKE HEADS.. ID GO FOR THOMAS
Foreman > Tucker ID GO FOR TUCKER IN A COMPETIVE FIGHT
Wat was ur point Saad??
